I agree with this advice. I did the same thing. I went to Indian Hills CC in Ottumwa, IA. I paid about the same. I stayed in a single dorm room, took my class, got a ton of on the road training. In this thread we sometimes call TransAm a "training company", they are not, they are a "starter company" only. You really should feel comfortable about driving a truck before you start with TransAm.

Wow , didn't expect to see this. I am sure with you being a driver already you will find something quick and probably better. Since I have been reading about TransAm it seems like they sure have a lot of problems.
I cant really say since I don't drive for them , they may have a whole lot of happy drivers that just don't post on here.
Anything major happen you want to share or rather just keep it to yourself
Good luck !!!
passport220 Thanks this. -
Oh, I agree ....you don't get something for nothing. You will have a trade off in there usually in less cpm. That amount can vary greatly from company to company, so everyone needs to take a look and make a comparison. For some this is the only way they will be able to do it though. We paid for ours because we had no choice .....the taxpayer money had run out at that time.

Dennis if you had 300 rookie mechanics
then a month later 300 more
how many problems would you have
Brand new drivers leasing is a problem
expectations of the job
missing home and loved ones
Trans Am is good at what they do
get you experience to move on
no more no less
just to add my lil bit of crankyness
they hire drivers that can only put on their resume
some ####### on Road Dawg stole my handle
I'm gonna sue
they can make CO2 from O2 -
^The short story is I got a 3 stop load swap going to NJ that was already running late, plan was for me to advance the load, then swap again, hand it off to another driver to keep it moving and make the deliveries. 2nd swap fell through so plan was changed for me to make the deliveries. Problem is since the first set of delivery appointments where now late and no good, new ones where made. To cover the last two stops would take 3 days and pay me about 128 in miles and leave me sleeping in a dirty parking lot next to the NJ Turnpike for days.
There is more to the story, some better appointment times where available but they where inadvertently canceled. I was on a split break, I only need to be on break for 2 hours ... someone thought I need a 10 hour break and canceled the appointments that would have worked out fine. I quickly notified my DM about the problem, took about 8 hours of fighting before someone actually listened to me and understood about the split break/canceled apointments problem.
My first swap was set for Gary, IN. I ask to have it changed to Lake Station. I never got a reply. No one told me the swap was canceled, I spent 30 minutes roaming the Gary truck stop looking for the swap driver who was not there.
In the mist of this, I got notice that the 58 hours I spent during my last breakdown was not eligible for $50 layover pay. Something about some of it being breakdown, only some of it layover.
Tired of complaining to TransAm, tired of coming on here and posting complaints. Tired of hearing myself complain.dennisroc, Panhandle flash and wulfman75 Thank this. -

passport, you are a good dedicated driver ....you will have no trouble finding a new job with more money. You are ready to move on. It was time.....you've known it for awhile.
Panhandle flash and dennisroc Thank this. -
^I was happier when I was dispatched out of Olathe. Feel like a lot of my current problems could have been worked out with my old DM. My job satisfaction has gone downhill since I was switched over to dispatch out of Rockwall. Maybe I could fight to get my dispatch changed again, tired of fighting, not in the mood.
dennisroc, HometimeQueen and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
Yes, I think this is true. Thank you for the encouragement. I am not some kind of super trucker but I am also not a newbie. TransAm is a starter company, I came back this last time for a third hire period. It is now the wrong fit.
My issues with TransAm are not huge. I could likely work it out, I am just too annoyed. Over time I will lighten up and still have a generally positive attitude about TransAm. TransAm does present a different choice, they do some things differently. Some good, some not so much but they do and give new drivers a welcome opportunity that would not otherwise be available in the market place. That is a net positive.dennisroc and HometimeQueen Thank this.
