My husband went to a new carrier about a year and a half ago and I know that some things have changed since then. I would feel more comfortable letting some of the current drivers answer you on that and also on jay-da-trucker's question about the trucks. I'm sure some of them will fill you in as they get online.

You will be paid .30cpm but they will only take taxes out of .18cpm. So, if you have a week that you drove 2500 miles your paycheck would be $750 but you will not pay taxes on $750 ....you will only be taxed on $450. If you are in a 15% tax bracket you would normally have about $112.50 taken out of your check for taxes but since you only pay taxes on $450 you will only owe about $67.50 in taxes......that's just a general simplified idea and I hope I did ok explaining it. Because you are being paid per diem and it is tax free you will not be able to deduct a daily allowance for living expenses from your Federal return.....when you are first starting out and making .30 - .32cpm per diem is usually a better deal for you. Later on as you begin to make more money it is something that you may want to look at when choosing another carrier.passport220, gntorres61 and jay-da-trucker Thank this.

Who do you think will win? Pete, jaso George or passport?
jungHo, Panhandle flash and dennisroc Thank this. -
Sounds like a plan, Hometime! Maybe Cranky will read poetry too. That seems a little like his cup of tea.
dennisroc and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
The times George was late for approved home time involved a rejected load that George had to babysit until TA found another buyer fot it (steak that was too frozen) and a swap was arranged. The other time or 2 were due to engine repairs that delayed home time. Occasionally he has gotten home a day before scheduled home time. Hopefully tomorrow will be one of those times. Fortunately he didn't have any concrete plans for the times he was late getting home. This week, however, he has a doctor appointment for his DOT physical, which is crucial.

I am a bit disappointed with my company this morning. They sent me to a cold storage this morning, for a FCFS place that opens at 0600. Well, it doesn't open till 0700 and my appt. wasn't till 1300. Normally they don't lie, or omit facts like this. Luckily, the CS people are cool, were willing to work me in, and are unloading me now.
HometimeQueen, passport220 and dennisroc Thank this. -
For only the 2nd or 3rd time in my career, I am picking up at the same place I just dropped. Can get another 3 hrs sleep before appt. Bad thing is, get to hit all the PITA places between here and Baltimore. Just jumping with joy!!!
passport220 and dennisroc Thank this.
