I HATE to admit it ... but you got me with that one ... lol.
As a company driver, you kind of can. You can contact road assist and they will send out mobile repair to put alcohol in the lines, no cost to a company driver. You do however loose the time to drive if it takes too long and during the winter months, mobile repair is usually backed up for hours ... even days.
That is why I recommend on level surfaces and do not set your brakes in the winter as they might freeze.dennisroc, HometimeQueen and wulfman75 Thank this. -
I have read a lot of good info on here about winter driving. A lot of things to be aware of and for sure need to be prepared.I think going up and down mountains would be tough when snowing or a little slick.

To tell the truth, I don't think my taking time off ever caused an issue with TA. They processed me back, paid for a hotel, etc and got me right back into a truck the two times I left and came back. When I came back to my old DM, I was up and running and all went fine.
My problems came about when I changed DM, I just can't seem to get along with her. I doubt I will ever come back with TA just because I don't think I will ever need to. I would never come back and work with my current DM.
I do have many choices now for companies I can go with. As other have said, just need to get some time in, get experience, more important get a driving record that insurance companies can go with and doors will open, regardless of the time you would like to take off.dennisroc, HometimeQueen and Panhandle flash Thank this. -

I was beginning to worry about you, passport.....I figured something was up with that DM of yours. I wish TransAm had honored their word to give you a new DM. At this point I think you are right, it isn't worth the aggravation anymore. Take your time off and enjoy your new home!
I have had a few conversations recently and from what I understand there are many companies that would allow you to take a leave of absence. You would not be limited to smaller companies. Some of the larger carriers would also allow you to take your time off ......but it would be limited to a 90 day leave. If that was acceptable then your choices are even greater. You will have no problem finding another driving position that will suit your needs.
I am thankful that all of your friends and loved ones are safe, passport and dennisroc.Panhandle flash, dennisroc and passport220 Thank this. -

Thanks. You bring up a good point about 90 days leave. Many companies can always use a good driver so, from an operations stand point, they can work with you coming and going.HometimeQueen said: ↑I was beginning to worry about you, passport.....I figured something was up with that DM of yours. The problem starts to be if you are out of the driver's seat too long, industry guidelines say you need to take a refresher course after 90 days. I kind of forgot about it, but that is one reason I kept coming back to TransAm. Both times I took time off it was for greater than 90 days, TransAm never made a bother about taking a refresher course. They just threw me a set of keys and sent me on my way.HometimeQueen and dennisroc Thank this. -
Same here too...I'm out the door Friday afternoon and have been gone since April of this yearpassport220 said: ↑Thanks. You bring up a good point about 90 days leave. Many companies can always use a good driver so, from an operations stand point, they can work with you coming and going.

actually I would think the small carriers would have more trouble with leave of absence
big carriers always have empty trucks
small carriers use every truck to maximum advantagepassport220 Thanks this.
