SRQGhost, are you listening to us? Do not lease, do not lease, do not lease! There is so much to learn at first.....give yourself a good base to work off of. Don't expect to go in making the same cpm as an experienced driver. Swaps are part of being with a large carrier that takes on students .....it is one way that they are able to guarantee home time, out bid other carriers by being able to relay the load across the country, and the way that they are able to take on student drivers and maintain their business. They are not fun usually but they serve a purpose and are part of the learning experience. Not every week is going to have a paycheck with the same dollar amount .....you are at the mercy of shippers and receivers that do not care about your time and trucks do have breakdowns. Learn to set back a sum of money for those times.

I'm with you on having someone else do the moving. Save your time off so that once you and Ms. Patty get settled into your new place you can take a vacation at home instead of in a motel!......That way she won't feel bad either when she says "Pete, I don't like the sofa there .....move it over here"

Have any of you all got something in the mail about a class action lawsuit against Swift? We did .....and I don't have a clue why. The King never put in an application to Swift ......the only thing I can think of is that the placement office where he went to school for his license did.

Gee......you all never learn ....guess it's time for another joke.....just remember, you asked for it!
So Grandpa asked Dave at his engagement party your marriage to Grandma is legendary everyone talks about how you two get along so well and never fight, whats the secret to your marital success? Well said Grandpa Joe after taking a deep puff on his cigar it all started on the way home from our wedding, we hadnt gone but a mile when the horse started giving us trouble I gave the horse a little whip and thats when I heard your Grandma say in a low voice thats strike one. A bit later the horse stopped again thats strike two she said. The third time it stopped she grabbed my shotgun and shot it in the head. I was in shock! What in the world was that all about? I had protested at the time. Thats strike one! she said back to me. And that is what I owe our marital success to.dennisroc and gntorres61 Thank this. -

Yes I am still listening. On a stay cation and not checking that much. And I agree completely that as a new driver leasing is not the way to go. Way to much to learn at once. Not to mention before even ttempting a lease I think it would be better to have a small reserve available in case of something happening. As Murphy's law says expect the unexpexcted.
Actually kinda knew a little about how leasing worked prior to reading about on here and learning more. And my answer to leasing went from no to heck no since reading more about it on here. At least for the first couple of years until I have a good working knowledge of the industry. And even then I may still not do it. Just depends on how I feel about it at that time. As I have read multiple times and this is just about trans am on this qoute "You can lease at anytime, but once you do you cannot go back to company".
And I have gotten quite a few laughs getting caught up. Also I will post the website for Florida traffic as soon as I get back to a regular computer to copy it easier than my phone.Last edited: Jul 24, 2014

I hear a lot about leasing and have no intention of doing that but what about being an Owner/Operator ???
I have not done any research really and just being a wannabe driver was curious. Not for any certain company but just as a general question.
i was just thinking with all the negative post from some drivers about their company or others companies why they don't become O/O ?
I plan on reading the forum here a little closer on this topic.
I am sure a big expense , Truck, Authority , insurance , tags and taxes , maintenance , dealing with brokers etc.
It seems like a lot but is it really that hard ???
