In Rock Hill SC at the Flying J waiting to take off for my final. B dispatcher is putting the screws to me. After I finish this 800 mile trip, I get to pickup another load for a broke down driver in Columbia SC and deliver it somewhere guessing in the region. Shaffer, get me out of here! Oh well, will do it keeping my chin up.

So I drop my load at Food Lion in Elloree SC after six hours. Go to rescue another load at a tow yard in Columbia SC. Tractor is gone but the reefer is there loaded but no fuel in it, no BOL, and the driver left his lock on the trailer. I rush it to the Pilot and get fuel as its a meat load and not due until 1400 TOMORROW. No wonder I only have 685 miles for the weekend. Wait for swaps 8 hours. Six hours in a dock this morning. Tired of playing with amateurs. I can't save these people. Gotta save myself. Not sure I wanna gonwith Shaffer if they call. So sick of reefer right now, but I know people gotta eat. Any thoughts?

I currently work for Watkins refrigerated formerly sunco( same company just a name change) they are mostly o/o and l/o. I am a company driver .44 mile $16/hr detention after 2 hours. They have several different areas you run depending on the fleet your on. Living in Florida I get home a least every other weekend sometimes sooner. This could be an option for drivers in fl, ga, and other areas of the south.

If you go with Schaffer, you won't be strictly pulling reefer. Since they're also a part of Crete, you'll be doing dry box also.

George, for what it is worth considering that I am not a driver, my feeling is that carriers that pull reefer are as diverse as the industry itself.....they are not all alike. With some, there is very little waiting and when you do have to wait they pay some form of detention. Look for someone that pays for your time ....some pay an hourly rate after 2 hours and some pay a percentage of whatever detention pay that the company gets. Those companies usually get loaded and unloaded in a timely manner ......shippers, receivers, and brokers do not like having to pay detention so they will keep things moving better. It does still happen but not nearly as often as it does with a company that gets their driver's time for free
Thank you for the information, FLCRACKER. It is always good to know about the options that are out there. I try to keep a little list of good companies when I hear about them.gntorres61 and passport220 Thank this. -
She is actually the one who rekindled my interest in driving cause she wants to do it. Still trying to figure out how those in my house would survive without my being there to walk the dogs and cook. And she has tried the whole adjustment thing but I am very stubborn and it just doesn't work.
You are correct JungHo I am not married, been there twice already and taking my time before I going that route again. As far as weather is concerned it is actually quite nice down here, cool but not cold in the AM and night, and sunny and hot during the day. No rain in sight, just wish I didn't have to work in such nice weather.passport220 and jungHo Thank this. -
That because old people don't see so well and you are really oldHometimeQueen and passport220 Thank this.
