Jaso and Panhandle thanks for all the great info. I knew there was a lot to being O/O but you both brought up a lot of good points.

    I don't think I will be an O/O , I am 60 now but if I was younger , maybe.

Just looking at all the options , I think I would be happier just driving for a company for a few years before I retire. After working on airplanes all these years and dealing with the Military and the FAA I have had enough stress.

i was just thinking if I was going to do something like O/O now would be the time financially but would be crazy to buy a truck with no experience.

dennis even to run just a single O/O these days is a lot of goverment paperwork
my company only has 10 trucks another 10 O/O leased onto us
then he has a brokerage too
and still has to have 4 people in the office himself and his son in the garage keeping it all together

when i had trucks and fishing boats both in the 70's
a box on the passenger seat with folded over reciepts sufficed
until the secretary at the accountants fixed it for me

No one ever said we didn't have our share of weird ppl here in Florida, most of them are called tourist:biggrin_25523: that don't know how to drive and that are likely from WV. Only a small number of us are weird. Or at least willing to admit it. :biggrin_25523:. And given where that happened it prob was one of them cause we won't admit to being that weird :biggrin_25523:

Whoo Hoo! Just found a site where drivers talk about there favorite independent truck stops with good food! They are not in any order and I will have to sift through a lot of comments so it will take me awhile to get a list together. But here are a few -

K & H truck stop at Gilman IL. I 57 & US 24 east of interchange stopped there the other day, food was great as usual, rather stop there then at pilot next to I 57

Longway's Truck Stop I-81 Exit 48 (NY 37-342 - 1/2 Mi E) Great Lasagna special about $ 8.50 give or take still under $ 10 bucks breakfast was great too and same price range

Russell's (mm369 I-40 NM.) is fast becoming a favorite of many. Each time I have stopped there, they have changed out some of the cars/ trucks in the museum

.Rhodes Travel Plaza of Cape Girardeau, MO. Exit 91 on the Old Double Nickle. (I-55 for those who don't get the reference) it's the best truck stop between St. Louis and Memphis. They have showers with full size tubs, room for a few hundred trucks. Truck wash and tire shop as well. A new restaurant called Sliders recently opened. The fuel desk cashiers Doris and Debbi are very sassy, and ornery. Lol

    Arlene's Truck Stop
I-94 Exit 92 (Columbia Ave) In Michigan didn't know this place was here a half mile north of the interstate had the chopped steak, salad and the to die for cornbread so fresh and sweet $ 8.59 nice little stop Citgo branded med sized paved parking will look to be back here also got some fuel too very nice place
    — at Arlene's Truck Stop

76 Fuel Stop in Berea, KY on I75 at exit 76..... I got the chicken fried steak with deviled eggs, frys and corn bread with sweet tea. Food was really good. The place really doesn't look like much but will sure be a new stop for me. Everyone there is very friendly. Food came fast. Small parking lot that can fit about 15 maybe 20 trucks.

Enjoying AWESOME 10oz walleye fillet at the Hickston Travel Plaza at exit 105 on I-94 in Wisconsin. Great little independent Truckstop.

I know its not on a "big road" but for really good bbq, Waverly apple bbq in Waverly MO , Located on US 24 in Waverly ( about 10 miles south of Carrolton MO ) next to a Caseys gas station, Yes there is truck parking.
Also US 65 at MO/IA line is Lineville, has a decent cafe there on west side of road.
South side of Ottumwa Iowa on US 63 sets Riverside Resturant, Good food good service.
In Bowling Green MO on bussiness 54 west side of town sets Crystals,

    Driver recommendation -

I found this little gem of a truck stop today while traveling south on I 55 about 40 minutes north of St. Louis.
It is located east of the interstate at exit 44 in Mt Olive, Illinois.
Is that an intersection for part of old route 66 and has been there long before the interstate was there.
They are open from 6 AM to 9 PM seven days a week. The prices were fair and food was awesome. Friendly staff as well that knows how to their customers.
You definitely want to put this on your list of places to stop
