Since HTQ and Cranky Yankee have apparently left the thread; you might as well lock it down. Lets talk about cameras.

Maybe I am cynical but I don't think anyone does anything in my best interest except me, myself and I. I don't think trucking companies would put seat belts in trucks if the law did not require it and they saved companies money through reduced insurance claims, etc. Yet I do feel a seat belt benefits me as a driver.
When stuff like close calls on the road go down, I find myself wishing I had the cam system in the truck. The cam system may not be placed in TransAm truck to benefit the drivers, yet they do. IMHO.
If someone wants to make an unauthorized view and catch me moving around the truck in my gym shorts or lounge pants. Who am I to deny them of a thrill. God did not give me this gift of a body just to keep it all to myself
I don't think I can be violated or have something taken away from me, when I did not have it in the first place. A commercial truck is not your private car. We do not have a right to privacy. We can be pulled over and be inspected without any type of probable cause, etc. I don't know the official version but my understanding was, TransAm lost their PrePass privileges due to safety problems, they started the DriveCam program to appease DOT and got the PrePass back. One way or the other, we ARE watched. I prefer to have the DriveCam give me the stink eye than have a state DOT cop pull me over and give it to me.
I see a lot of upside for me as a driver and just don't feel the downside of misuse. If anyone does, than TransAm is not for you, as the trucks surely do have them.
Love's chain of truck stops do not have washers/driers most all the rest do. Usually available, I can't remember ever having to wait to use one. They are a bit expensive at $2.50 or $2.75 per wash or dry at most places. Less at Sapp Bros. Unless it is a high risk area like George pointed out, I usually put my stuff in the washer, take a shower while it is washing, then change it over to a dryer and sit in my truck while it dries. I would not leave it sitting unattended for many hours but I feel fine leaving it alone for the time it takes to have a shower or eat a meal, etc.Last edited: Nov 12, 2015
dennisroc and Big Papaxx Thank this. -
I'm bored. Sitting in Fort Wayne without a reload. Give us another topic and I will feel fine writing crap about that!

One thing I like about the camera is when someone wants to bum a ride. I just point to the camera and the discussion is cut right then.
Big Papaxx Thanks this. -
Very valid points and thanks for the humor as well..passport220 Thanks this.

Thanks because my origional reason for coming to this thread was to ask about TransAm . As I have a pre hire letter from them. Unfortunately the cameras became the topic. I understand they are more of a starter company. My question would be is that really all it is? a company to get some experience and move on not to look at spending a career with them? @panhandleflash dano86 or anyone with TransAm experience

Why worry about if transam is a starter company or not if the camera's were a deal breaker????
-
Not worried about it but I believe in being fully informed. As I have done with all the companies I have a pre hire letter from. I research the pros and cons so that I can evaluate the company in it's totality and make the most informed decision about each and every company..
