So Honeybaddger I have a question for you then. Since you are in the panhandle and you have said that it is harder sometimes, in your opinion do you think it you would have a harder time of getting home if you were company and living in the panhandle? I am only asking cause I live a lot further south and only occasionaly see a TA truck when driving between appointments or for that fact even my own house which is right off of 75 in Sarasota county which is at least an hour south of the I4 corridor and about 2 hours minimal depending on speed to Aburndale.
Passport, you may have some input being a company driver so any info would great.
Currently this is a concern of mine, don't get me wrong as I do not mind being out 4 weeks at a time to get 4 days, I would just like to have a little more info prior to making the decission of TA over other companies that offer the same that I see more of in my area. -
I wonder also about the fuel when you go home and go to get another load.
If you are quite far from your last drop does TA care if you burn up a lot of fuel to go home and to get your other load after home time .
Also on home time do you usually bobtail or have a trailer with you. -
I think I would have the same amount of difficulty as a company driver honestly. It's just that where I'm at doesn't get a lot of stuff that finals near us and I 10 in Florida isn't a hotspot for our trucks to swap either. Especially for me to get an empty and go home. It's by no means to the point of being problematic. I just prefer to go home early instead of late. You would probably have an easier time getting home. We've got plenty of freight that goes down to Tampa, Lakeland, Miami ect. Only ONCE in the whole time I've been here have I delivered within 50 miles of my house and that was just a fluke. Had a 3 stop load, one stop and Alabama and the other 2 were the commissaries on Hurlburt AFB and Tyndall AFB. Neither myself nor hubby have ever seen a TransAm truck delivering in town before that.
Dennis, you go home with an empty trailer. They are aware how far you have to deadhead when they send you home and you get your fuel solutions accordingly. Lease ops have to manage that on their own, but we get fuel solutions too.
George, the dispatch system is all kinda of crazy right now. I've been hearing about the carebear fleet for the newbies. I've got Julie as a DM and love her to death. She knows how to deal with me when I'm being a butt hole and we still get things done haha.gntorres61, dennisroc and SRQGhost Thank this. -
I think I would be in the same situation then. The only spot within 50 of my house is a Walmart DC that I have heard of you guys going to from time to time, Unless TA also delivers to Publix DC's.

Don't worry Passport, the only positive of the lease program that I have been able to figure out is about hometime and being able to refuse loads, for me there is just to many things going against lease for myself to even think about it as a new driver.
I was actually wondering about how you are treated in regards to company drivers and hometime, Mainly any issues with getting it and if they are true to what their recruiting info is saying that they will deadhead you home if you have it approved and scheduled, and if they give you any grief over it by delaying it to try and get you a load close to where you live? Maimly just covering my bases and asking questions as I do believe that I may live outside of the frieght lanes that TA travels mostly.HometimeQueen and passport220 Thank this. -
we run loads into miami every week
i have unloaded at publick DC
and have been right down past you to Fort MeyersSRQGhost Thanks this. -
Dennis, so far it appears TA tries to route your last load near your home. In the time George has been working with them, just over 2 months, they've sent him to SC, and he deadheads home. TA pays fuel for the trip home but not the miles. Then, when he leaves home to get a load, they do pay for the miles. He hasn't bobtailed home yet. We don't live on the freight lane, so that may have some affect on not having a load closer or to go home with.dennisroc, gntorres61 and SRQGhost Thank this.

Thank you, Down there once a week for my current job so I do know my way around there pretty good.
FYI - for anyone traveling down or through Fort Myers FL there is a new Loves that looks like it should be opening up sometime soon at exit 143 in North Fort Myers, and where it is at and from what I can see it looks like they should have a good size lot as well as what looks like a seperate garage.HometimeQueen Thanks this.
