Want to say thanks to everyone for sharing info on HOS. I am sure once you do it a while it becomes easier but now I understand it a little better.

I ordered a Rand McNally truckers atlas and have been looking through it here lately and trying to checkout truck routes and low overpass etc.... I find it interesting and also educational.

If I decide to drive I want to have everything learned that I can so i can concentrate on things I still need to learn.

My contract over here was supposed to end in December and if they don't get the new contract I'm sure whoever gets it will keep most of us on. They just extended the contract for 6 months which would make it end at the last of June 2015.

Very hard choice to make giving up my job and tax free money :) but 9 years in Korea and I am ready for a change. I just hope I can make a pretty decent pay check driving a truck. Get good company , truck ,miles etc....

    Decisions , Decisions , Decisions ??????? :biggrin_2557: :biggrin_25526:

I don't get into the HOS discussion, dennisroc. I played with it on the computer for awhile and know just enough to get myself in trouble if I were a driver.:biggrin_25524: From what I have read 50% of DOT officers do not understand the split sleeper provision and failed it on a written test......that is the nicest thing about elogs ....it is never questioned if the elog has allowed it.

Pete, was talking about the days that Panhandle drove less than 7 hours total for the day.

Pete, give Panhandle a break .....he's gettin' up there in years you know. :biggrin_2559: ....And he drives the northeast.:biggrin_2552:

when I go to detroit, which is frequently as I haul auto parts, I always park in monroe. lot safer lol.

just keep your head on a swivel is what I always say. I've been in some shady areas but I haven't had any problems in the 3 years I've been out here.

then again I'm on paper logs, I WILL get somewhere I feel safe to park. ;)

Ok, I just agreed to show up in Olathe this coming wenesday to oriantation for Trans Am. What can I expect in the three days? Also, since I have a few months experience, will they put me in with a trainer or solo? With all the talk of swaps and dispatch problems,is there money to be made or what? Also,Iam not leasing, but how many company drivers stick around after a year if any ?? Any extra info also appreciated, thanks!!

P.s. was with a small company using paper logs out of Chicago-but with no insurence or benefits, thought the insurence and 401k would be a smart move and a company with good equipment,am I wrong picking TA?

Chismi , welcome. I am just a wannabe driver but have got so much information. If you search all the TA info on here and there is a lot. Good and negative , but there are some really good people on here that will answer better than me. I am sure they will be on here soon and they have answered so, so many questions that I have had.

I do know they have very nice trucks and all have APU and Very well equipped.

Any questions you have are usually answered pretty quick so it is 4:30 pm here in South Korea so it is early morning there in the USA. I'm sure soon everyone will be waking up.

Keep me posted on how your orientation goes !!!

the insurance isnt much with transam
it is a starter co JUST DON'T LEASE
get enough experience to move on to better companies
most of the good small companies want 2 years
I have moved on to a company that pays
.42 cpm and 100% of both mine and wifes healthcare
put your location in your signature we can help with other companies when the time is right
half of us are ex transam drivers on this thread

I don't know Dennis I think I am more confused about how Jaso is trying to explain split breaks, prob better to get it explained while actually looking at it.

And I think everyone was in bed when you came on here Jaso, Me personally was installing a receiver and picking up a new trailer to haul the toys around, which will be a bonus for me to practice with as it is a 5th wheele trailer.

Chismi, Passport seems to be the longest company driver on the tread unless I there is someone else hiding so he would prob be the best to answer on company driver info.
