I did not find this to be true. TransAm was my first job out of CDL school, I drove with them for about 1.5 years. When it came time to look for a new job, everyone I spoke to or applied to showed interest in hiring me. The automatic thing never came up. I got hired on by my first choice company and invited to orientation by my backup, second choice company.
I found this to be true, it is why I moved on from TA.

I came off ten days home/vacation on monday and tuesday I called and sent message that I was leaving TransAm. 2 week notice is in and we are done.
Bad thing about leaving TransAm is the Olathe, KS yard is 50 miles to kansas city airport. About $55 to $85 taxi ride. But I can get plane from kansas city to atlanta for around $140. -
It is not a bad place to start. I would say, if you can do a year with TA then you will be able to handle most situations you come across. I drove for them before they hired students, and trained for them after that. They used to be a very good company to drive for. I personally think the contractors have made the company worse than the students. When they did not have contractors, the trainers would go above and beyond to see you exceed at trucking. the lease program made the lease operators train to afford to eat. I leased a truck from them when they first started the lease program and was very successful at it but that was when Russ was not in control and Johnny cared about drivers. Russ is pocketing so much money from the KW dealer that he is hoping you fail.
