Why not look into Shaffer Trucking? Still governed at 62 but there's no inconsistency, they all do 62 pedal and cruise. And you'll start at .48, cap at .54... guaranteed detention pay, etc. I drive on the dry side (crete) and my trainer was a Shaffer driver, I'm still in touch with him, so I can get you any information you want.

Do you guys move in between the two? What I mean is can any Crete driver pull a Shaffer load and vice versa? I sometimes see mix matched rigs out there but it is usually Shaffer truck and Crete trailer.
-
Here is the 'Catch' .....Shaffer drivers do a lot more Live-load/Live-unload to the point where it makes zero sense to make a few cents more than Crete Dry side ONLY. Where the money is ...is Shaffer Team ONLY. Now a Shaffer driver gets paid the same cpm whether a refer load or a dry van is following him. A Crete dry van only driver can pull both but will not receive the extra cpm when pulling a refer. I DISCOURAGE ANYBODY WITH ASPIRATIONS OF WANTING TO BE A SHAFFER DRIVER.ethos Thanks this.

We're doing plenty of live loads and unloads on this side too these days. I heard from someone that Shaffer actually has more drop and hook stuff on the national fleet than crete does right now. Most of our drop/hook stiff goes to the regional and dedicated fleets now.
And the last reefer load I pulled was a drop on both ends, so.Last edited: Apr 10, 2016

Go with the company that's going to give you the best equipment to make life otr comfortable that first year. You are learning, no sense learning and being uncomfortable too. The purpose of a starter company is to get experience, not make the big bucks. Half the people that complain about other companies caused their own misery. You can tell by the way most of them talk on here they probably cry all day long to their dispatcher and wonder why they get crap miles.
You got the right attitude Adrienna, go with comfort that first year. Personally during my first year I would rather be comfortable and make a little less then be uncomfortable as hell and make a few cents more. Worry about pay after that first year. I too am considering Transam just because of thier equipment. Yes, have an offer for .41 to start versus their .32, but then I got no fridge, no apu, no tv, no microwave, be living in a cardboard box for 6 weeks at a time. I can do that downtown without going anywhere. Besides, you get raises every 3 months for that first year and then make .42 cpm.
No thanks, I'll take that comfort putting in my 1st year dues. Then Ill find someone like Riverside Transport to work for afterwards. Not to mention if I ever do decide to go lease, they are the only ones with from my research have an actual fair lease.Last edited: Apr 10, 2016
