I have a 4 friends who started there back in may when I attended the orientation. All 4 stayed after orientation even though I jumped ship and went to May. All 4 got those nice new trucks because they went the leasing route. All 4 currently no longer work there and it's only been a few months. They all said they were only netting 400 dollars AFTER they paid for everything on the truck. I had one friend who has done 6 months there and he quit because of the same thing.

Hi. I hope you don't mind some more questions about May. I was told by a friend of mine that May will quickly send you home if you fail the skills test, even if you just hit one cone. I'm just wondering if they are that strict. I only ask because it is a long bus ride for me and I have been out of a truck for nearly a year. It is the shifting during the skills and drive test that worries me, just because I haven't shifted in so long. I am just considering another company closer to home who might not be as strict as May during orientation (though I know they are not a good company, really) just to get comfortable driving again before I went to May. Do you think this is necessary? Am I overreacting? Anyway, sorry for the long question, and I hope you don't mind answering it. Thanks, and take care.

When I joined May, my friend who also had about 7 months of experience came too. I ran over two curbs on the road test. My friend backed into the tire wall they had set up and ran over three cones. We were both still hired on. I was allowed to go ahead and get my truck as an experienced driver. My friend was sent out with a local trainer for a week to "knock the rust off." Then he got his truck and went on his way. He had to start out with beginner's pay instead of experienced but he was hired on. May is strict about some stuff once you get in. But they aren't that strict about stuff during the orientation. You have to do REALLY bad to be sent home.

Thank you for replying so fast. I guess some of the people on here who have posted about being sent home by May for hitting a tire or a cone aren't being completely honest about what happened. I am more worried about my "rusty" shifting skills than I am about hitting anything, really. I learned a lot driving a Family Dollar account for a few months, as far as backing and maneuvering in tight spots, but it was an automatic transmission. So taking a drive and skills test in a manual after not driving one for nearly a year is what I'm nervous about. Anyway, thanks again for replying, I really appreciate it.

What is May Trucking strict about?

Also, does May Trucking have you do another physical with a company physician, if you already have a medical card, (1 or 2 year medical card)?

I didn't have to and my friend didn't have to. I can't answer for anyone else.

No problem. Also, you can ask if they'll let you test in an automatic or just simply ask them to keep in mind that you're rusty. I did and they ended up letting me test in an automatic.

One more thing before I go to sleep. Keep in mind that the company you're applying for usually pays for your travel expenses and hotel cost for the orientation phase if you're coming from out of state. They'll most likely be coming out of pocket for a greyhound ticket and a room. Some of them even buy one, two, or all three of your daily meals while in orientation. So it's in their best interest for you to succeed. Sending you home over little things like hitting one or two cones is the equivalent to them throwing away their own money. Now if you take out all of the cones, or didn't GOAL at ALL or were just really bad and you're supposed to be coming in as experienced, yeah. I'd send you home too lol
