If I may ask, what makes them better than TransAm?

Not a fan of that answer that you're new so you should be cheap . All those companies make bank on that kind of thinking . It's a Cabal. They 're making 2, 3 dollars a mile and paying you 8 bucks an hour if you're lucky . They love turnover , they love paying in thirties so they can own a fleet of a thousand trucks worth an average of 150k each . If you read the other Trans Am thread they're making drivers sit and ' wait ' for a company truck up to two weeks at a time to force them into an LP so they can get them to pay for their trucks and fuel on top of it , too . What do they pay , .90? Fuel at two dollars a gallon /7=.28 cpm . What's the truck payment ? 700? At 2500 miles a week that's another .28 cpm . Down to .34 cpm , now take out insurance , escrow , maintenance , PIP. Thieves

They don't have apu, refrigerator, direct tv, inverters, etc. They wear cute uniforms also. They don't waste money on these things; the driver is just a tool, like a tire guage or bottle of washer fluid.

But I like APU's, refrigerators, direct tv, and inverters. I stay out on the road for months at a time. I plan to stay out unless I have to go home to take care of something. I don't have any responsibilities, no family, etc. and I want to make money. I like living in the truck as well. So being comfortable in it is important. All of those things make life out on the road more comfortable IMO. If I can get decent miles (which I've heard you can), and be comfortable in the truck and at the company I'm a happy camper. I don't have to be the richest, I just want to be comfortable. Make enough to pay bills and maybe afford something nice every now and then. I don't have to be making 50 CPM and be making thousands a week. I just want enough to enjoy my life a little more and not stress out about bills. 5 or 6 a week or even a little more is just fine with me. 33 dollar and zero dollar paychecks are not.

I know how to put my foot down and the fact is I will not lease. I have heard on this forum and from drivers on other forums that they MAY try to hold company trucks from you to get you to lease but IF they do this if stand firm and refuse to lease they give you a truck. I've also heard that they get you your miles (a lot times it's by giving you repowers but who cares you're still getting your miles). And I've heard their trucks are comfortable. That's all that I care about. Not getting rich or getting rich quick. I want to be comfortable.

It seems as if you have your heart set on TransAm. You could do better but it's you life. If it were me and I wanted to stay van (yuck) I would not look to company that pushes leases so hard. But that's me.

I've said three times or so now that I'm not leasing so we don't need to discuss that anymore. Not to be a jerkface but can we please stick to the original question that was asked? And it's not about being cheap. Yeah you have many people who dream of being rich and making the most and blah blah blah. But everybody is not like that. Everybody doesn't care about making thousands a week or driving a ferrari or having the biggest house. I'm one of those people who don't care. I don't want to be the richest I just want to live decently. I just want a company that will offer me enough miles to pay my bills and have a little extra spending money or saving money. Above all I else I want to be comfortable. Your goals may be different than mine so please look at what I originally asked and just answer that, not what you think I may want or meant to ask.

Also, it's not about "oh, I'm new so I have to be cheap." It's about being reasonable and realistic. We are driving around 80 thousand pound missiles for a living, hauling around things that cost thousands. Most good companies that have something legit and really good to offer is not going to pick up some random person that has no experience handling this stuff etc. Most of those that will have a long list of requirements. The fact of the matter is, you have to earn respect and recognition and better pay, and not just here in this industry but anywhere you go. You have to work your way up instead of coming in to some place or some industry with no experience and nothing to offer and expect them to give you the world. This does not mean that you starve like I am, but it also means you can't expect to go to the best right off the bat. I'm being as realistic as I can.
Again, I'm not being a jerkface but you're really getting off of topic here.

I'm not set on it yet. I'm still doing research. But I haven't heard anything really bad about them thus far. Say no to lease and move along. Also, I'm taking all of the suggestions in. Chinatown gave me a whole list I'm looking into. I'm just doing research. There's no better way to research than to talk to drivers.

What people are saying is; that it's not like the way you describe. If you want to drive cheap then do it but what I and everyone else is trying to say is that you don't have too. 6 months is enough to get you in at many places that pay better. The real fact is that as a student you could have gotten in to the same ones.
