Believe it, or not Roehl is behind the times in the technology department. I tried scanning then emailing the file to payroll and they couldn't get the file. Turns out they aren't even using jpg., instead they use bmp which creates huge files. I can do it, but I have to use an e-fax to fax them the paperwork. I'm not on e-logs, but I use it for practice if and when we ever do go paperless. I can tell you, it is possible to screw up your e-log as bad or worse than a paper log, I just did it.

If you have a laptop there is another option. I have the verizon mifi so I bought a wireless printer/scanner. I can scan all my paperwork and then fax it to them if I want. The added benefit is that if they have to send you any paperwork you can have them e-mail it and then print it at your leisure. This has saved me several times when I pickup a trailer without a registration.

Not only is there a cost factor about e-logs, but thanks to ooida and their victory in court there is a legal question as well. They won on the harassment issue and these idiotic companies even admit they use their e-logs to force drivers to drive longer, and do training during a driver's rest period. I wouldn't doubt that Roehl is treading water until this all gets sorted out.

Preacher Man, I like the idea of having a printer in the truck...I'll keep my eyes open for a smallish one that uses cheaper ink cartridges.

I'm on a 14/7 hometime fleet and used paper logs my 1st week out. So the one post that we have to do both is wrong.

My truck setup is a laptop with wireless, the Verizon MiFi, and the Canon Pixma Wifi printer. It gives me a flatbed scanner and printer all in one. At $2.00 a page and the lost time of going to a truck stop and waiting on a fax, it has been a real lifesaver. You would be amazed how many trailers don't have registrations or inspection stickers. Now I call in and just have it emailed. Then all I have to do is open my email and print the document. If you need to fax to them there are several internet based fax services. Scan as a pdf file then fax the file to Roehl. The nice thing is that you now have a digital copy also. In a pinch you can also fax your trip documents when you can't get to a transflo.

Mine will too, but payroll won't take PDFs. Has to be a certain type of image. Can't remember what.

If you email it then they want tiff files, they have to be 8 bit black and white. You still don't get small files and Roehl can't handle attachments very well. Best bet is to save as a pdf and then use an internet fax service. Hence my earlier post that Roehl isn't very current with their technology.
