Efficiency and planning do not alway have to do with the truck with a load on. How it is scheduled, and working with the customer to do things better to not create a backlog, reducing turnaround time, etc, etc, etc. Unfortunately, you are myopically looking at only one part of the equation. There is a lot of "behind the scenes" going on with a truck and a load. It is called logistics. And when done right, there is no more pressure than on paper, and in some cases, less. Because things, when done right, can work almost like a well oiled machine. Instead of using the driver and his fudging paper logs to pick up the slack, on e-logs, the other folks in the equation are going to have to streamline things a bit instead of the driver. But I am quite ok with the fact that so many folks are having trouble grasping all of this. I realize if e-logs become mandatory, I will have most of the problems worked out and it will mean very little to me. Yes, that's right, I do not give a rip about any one else having a problem with e-logs. Those that want to tussle with the idea that it can be done profitably, then go on your merry way and see how it all plays out when confronted with it. It is not part of my business operation to make sure you figure out how to make it work for your operation.

horse crap i drive for the same company i did on paper biggest checks came on elogs

peterd Thanks this. -
i had a lvl3 in ohio once.
his question was. do you always push yourself that hard.
so knock youself out. cuz i'm not. -
I'm beginning to doubt your "30 years" experience. Maybe straight trucks and local runs?
What you and others are doing is broad brushing the entire industry. E logs may work fine for you and your situation, I am now driving a day cab running fuel and they work for me now, I could care less about my time since I sleep in my own bed every night. And I'm now payed by the hour!! BIG FREAKIN DIFFERENCE!!!
But for you to say that the guys running produce, livestock and other time sensitive cargo like I use to do, e logs will be their saviour is just like your name, cowpie!
I pulled a refer for years, never ran 2 logs, and always made my appt. times unless there was a weather/traffic delay. I did not need a computer to tell me when to sleep, eat, drive etc. If I got tired, I pulled over and slept. Real simple. I also knew that the load of strawberries or that ice pack chicken had only so many hours to get there. So don't talk to me or any of the other experienced drivers about "trip planning"!!
As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke. don't fix it. -
What ever the hell that means?

I switched a refer company over to eLogs, on time service is up, violations are down, average miles per drivers are up. Running on paper was a disaster for us. So cross off refer carrier from the list that eLogs wont work for.

My "computer" has yet to tell me when to eat, sleep, or drive. However when it becomes self aware, and is going to take over the world with all the other computers ill be sure and let you know.Last edited: Mar 12, 2013

All of you who are on paper, that have a good driving record, be grateful. The e log will make you look like a bad diver. If your company has a set speed limit, you best not go over it AT ALL (Swift drivers know this already). Better not have to hit the brakes too hardTo keep from voting that car that pulled out in front of you. There is more to the EORB's than planning and hours of service.

Elogs or not companies are going to start monitoring these types of behaviors. Preventing "unsafe" actions keep CSA score lows. So until the model that companies are judged by changes to a point where driver behaviors no long effect the ratings responsible companies will use this data to address driver behaviors with the hopes of reducing CSA scores.
As for your example of hitting the brakes because a driver pulls out in front of you, no problem just communicate that. However if you are constantly hard braking for controlled intersections that might indicate a larger issue.peterd Thanks this. -
Doubt away! I really don't care one way or the other on that. I still am amazed at how so many folks can find ways to complain, yet not create ways to overcome a difficulty. If you only had a clue what I have done in those over 30 years of trucking. But I don't need to explain it to anyone. Those that count are quite aware of it.
On e-logs, sure they may work fine for me. But if they get mandated, you will have to work fine with them or go find another stock and trade. You can rant and rail against me and others who have this thing worked out all you want. Curse at God if it makes you feel better, but it sure isn't going to provide the solution. That is up to you. You will make it work or you won't. I have already advised that those not on e-logs, try doing on paper the way the e-log would do it and find out how to adjust what you are doing to make things work. But, if you would rather wait to get thrown into the pool without swimming lessons, that is your call.
And I know that you are really reaching. I said that e-logs would be the saviour of those hauling time sensitive, livestock, etc? I dare you to find a quote from me that I ever said that e-logs would be the savior of anyone. I did reference that they might be able to save one's bacon in a legal action, but that is about it. So blow away, blow hard. Not intimidated in the least. LMAOpeterd Thanks this.
