The difference here is that the manual transmission can still be driven by jumping the bad gears, if need be to get it someplace.

Could have easily been a defect or bad tranny. Those transmissions are built pretty tough and it would be hard for an individual to destroy one in a short amount of time.

    Thanks for the info CAXPT.

Well I will venture a guess and say the tranny was jammed in one of those two gears or attempted to viciously at a most inopportune time. Poor tranny. I hope they can fix it soon enough

Yeah not that I want to experiment and see how fadt a tranny can be destroyed, but I wonder what exactly causes that. Still not as bad as THIS though  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQejEBP93Ic&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Had to recheck, you said it was 1st and 6th, I was mistaken, those are two different gears on the power flow, but if I remember right, the shifter or synchronizer may still be involved in the shift..... like I said, it's been a long time.

The shifter fork can bend which isn't a real biggie. They can fix it in place.

The new guy always catches the heat.

CAXPT and Black Sky Thank this.

Hold on a second..... the write up said it wouldn't go into first or 6th right? Why am I seeing in my mind the "3rd" driver tried to drive that 9 speed like it was a 10 speed. Of course you can't throw a 9 speed from 4th to LO. You'll break stuff for sure if you manage to do it. Chances are you'll end up with pistons in your lap.

That just has "this is going to end poorly" written all over it.

He said 1st and 6th, and it threw me off, but Condo is right, it could just be a bent or misaligned fork, the shifter linkage can be off etc.

I was trying to think, the same fork is being used, to shift between 1/2 and is the same for 5/6. Since the problem is in 1/6 it may be just binding in the linkage...and totally unrelated to the sychronizers. Needless to say it might be minor and they're just trying to scare the beejeezus out of them. :D

Right, i get that it's the same fork, but it'd be 1/5 or 2/6 that would be the problem. If it'll go into 2, and 5 ok, then something's amiss elsewhere. I just graduated trucking school and i was in the 9 speed on a crew ride, when we had when one of the guys that had been on 10 speeds for the previous ten road rides go from 4th to LO. The next shift wouldn't go into 5th, and on our next hill start it wouldn't go into 1st from a stop. We switched drivers and the next guy had to skip shift to bypass 5th all together. 6th was ok and so was 2nd, but the 1/5 section was ROACHED.

Yes, the company is probably trying to scare the driver, but something's not adding up, and i'm usually good at math. LOL
