I will keep the clutch since its brand new and heavy duty , just have to pay for labor , new cooler , probably oil and shortening and balancing the driveshaft .

Fair deal, I’m surprised they didn’t just give you core value. I’d say You did real well. Its good to hear, for a change.

Be sure that is exactly what you want because the 18 speed transmission has a lot of value.

If you ever decide that you want another 18 speed, they will only trade you 18 speed for 18 speed, and the core price will knock your eyeballs out if you don't have the same identical transmission.

With that being said, if the 13 speed is what you're after that sounds ok.

If it were me though, if I saw that 18 speed was rebuilt and I thought it had about 350,000 miles on it, I'd pull the plug and see if anything is on it and if I didn't see anything I would put it in the truck and forget about it. Then I would sell the 10 speed and put that toward when I'm ready for another 18.

That transmission might last as long as the truck you have.

But the deal does sound fair.

Old saying, there is a first time for everything, well this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone swapping a 18 for a 13. The 18 may not be needed, but the truck is more valuable with it over the 13.

I understand that 18 speed more valuable than 13 but again i dont really need it for my application and i hate to risk throwing it in and in case something wrong over the road - it will cost me arm and leg to have it rebuilt , ... Also truck is 6x2 only , previous owner disconnected third axle .

Im swapping 10 ...not 18 , to my understanding 18 used as 13 all the time unless it heavy haul

No offense, but unless the 13 you're getting is a genuine Eaton reman or you know the transmission shop that rebuilt it and can confirm it's got all genuine Eaton gears and parts in it....that 18 you have is worth way more then the deal they gave you and will do the same job if not better because of versatility.

The core alone on the 20 series 18 you traded in is minimum 2500 to 3k. The core on the 10 speed is around 1500 to 2k core value. You would have been money ahead in the long run to spend $200 to have the 18 looked and checked out. Sold the 10 for 1000 to 1500k and kept your 18.

Also, an 18 has an extra bearing that makes it a little more stout on the low side. Very nice for taking off on nasty steep hills when your loaded
