Ok I was looking at the Trans serial number and it is only rated at 1600ftlbs. So what is the difference between an 1800 and 1600 trans? Is it the whole construction or just the clutch??? I want to turn it up from 435hp but don't want to burn up the tranny!

If you have two transmissions and one is a RTLO16718B and the other is a RTLO18718B.........the ONLY difference in these two transmissions is the heat treatment of the gears inside the case. The gears will interchange with each other. Now the difference in the heat treatment allows the RTLO18718B to handle 200 FT/LBS more torque from the engine without metal fatigue. The 1650 FT/LBS transmission will handle the higher torque output for awhile without failure, as long as the driver doesn't shock load the transmission. I'd also invest in a transmission oil cooler for the 1650 FT/LBS transmission if there isn't one now, if you uprate the engine.
If you look at a RTLO18918B versus a RTLO16918B then the higher torque rated transmissioin has a better oiling system inside of it, along with the better heat treatment of the gears. -
Ok this one is the RTLOC 16909AT2. I guess it was a nine speed thats been converted

the "T2" at the end of your model number means that particular transmission is rated for 1850lbs torque rating in the top two gears. I dont know what the difference is physically between 8th and 9th gears on a T2 trans and a regular trans, Mr Haney or someone else will chime in.

Good Evening,
You can convert that to a 13spd and get 1850ft in the last two gears. The in RTLOC means this is convertible transmission. 16909ATC means 1650ft of torque for L-6 and 7-8 get 1850ft of torque.

Ok so 10th through thirteenth is ok to mash on it??? I talked to a shop here in houston and they said they could totally rebuild the tranny and upgrade it to the RTLOC18909 for $2400... Not too bad...

It is a 13 already...

Still CN, that is a good rugged reliable tranny combo you have considering the Cat/Tranny combo has advantages over Cummins engines per the Eaton Fuller site.
KHCat nip Thanks this. -
I'm just gonna save up and do the rebuild before I bring up the power. It's kind of a shame though because this thing shifts like a brand new tranny.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
why not just get the ecm flashed to 475hp/1750tq, and go from there, not really gonna hurt anything?
