I was in Indiana on I-70,near Richmond.Load was going to Pennsylvania.Closet terminal was in Columbus,Ohio.I live in Dayton,Ohio.34 hour reset was to take place at terminal near delivery in Penn.Have logs to show I took multiple breaks for over 10 days. And I had informed my dispatcher at least three times in last 3-4 days of dealing with the flu.The 34 hour break was not gonna happen for at least 10 more hours.Had done multiple resets at terminals, which are not located withing walking distance of food and told my dispatcher that vending machine food for two days was unacceptable.I'm diabetic and required specific meal options.Trust me guys,I am not in the wrong here.I did everything right and was upfront and honest with dispatcher. He didn't care because he knew he had all the power.

Sorry you had to find out the truth about OSHA the hard way. OSHA really only responds after someone dies on the job, not before. OSHA does not exist for prevention. Someone dies on the job and the public wants to put the blame on someone. OSHA steps in and slaps the company's wrists and the public is satisfied. If it isn't a slam dunk, or involves real work, OSHA doesn't want anything to do with it.
Employees have no rights in this country. Whistleblowers are always hung out to dry unless the media picks up the story and the public is outraged. The public could give two ##### about a driver with the flu, until that driver hits a school bus full of kids. The sooner you can accept that, the longer you'll stay employed.
Again, sorry you had to find this out the hard way.Owner's Operator Thanks this. -

I know where the problem is now....you drove with many breaks for over 10 days. That wasn't the flu you had and didn't really let you dispatcher now until the last 3 to 4. When you were having trouble making your hours 10 days ago (actually over 10 days) is when you should have said something. No response from your dispatcher then up the line you go. Actually a call to safety and you would have found yourself somewhere parked...maybe not a home but somewhere. It would have been somewhere you could have gotten medical care. Sorry I think I'd stand with the trucking company on this one....you drove for over 10 days sick you could have made it to the Columbus terminal....it isn't that far from Richmond, IN and what's another day....you already drove for over 10 days being sick and not telling anyone until you were closer to home.
As far as a diabetic and special needs....partner is diabetic and this truck has all her "special needs". We can be stuck in a snowstorm for days and it isn't a problem. So...what exactly are you telling me...you have nothing aboard than be heated in a microwave at a terminal or truckstop. I think you need to plan a little better when you have special needs.
If you were sick for over 10 days and you didn't know notify dispatch until 3 or 4 days from home....sorry something just isn't right.
RizenPhoenix you were just dang gone lucky they didn't get you for truck abandonment. -
Guess I should have waited till I did it driving and wiped out a couple of families. -
I can relate man. They did so many things to me to make me feel like a peon,i'd be all day putting them down in writing.from the first phone call to the recruiter,it was lies and disrespect towards me from then on.

I have seen our dispatchers pull loads from drivers and repower them for drivers not feeling well. Can't imagine an outfit that has been around as long as TA would sacrafice safety like that.

Madbunny...you don't know what your talking about.1.)Yes,I did not have food for multiple days.I had enought till I could make it to another stop.2.)I told my dispatcher 3 or 4 times in the last three days I was sick. That's enough. But I had told him before that, that I was sick and using Dayquil and Nyquil to stay on the road.3.)My dispatcher had told me before he would try and accomadate any special needs. And just for the record,I have retained a lawyer and plan to pursue this thru civil court.

"Super Truckers" that has all the answers. I would have driven to the nearest terminal and turned my truck in right then and there. If you would side with a company on this kind of issue then I say that you get what you deserve. I will not drive or take any crap from anyone when I am sick, period.
The company should have done everything possible to get his load taken care of and get him home. No excuses and second guessing required. Get a grip dude!!!
