Hi everyone - I'm new to the forum and hopefully this is right area to post this question.

I'm not a trucker, I work in finance. I have the opportunity to buy the assets of a closed business in the midwest. I would need to transport the items to the NY. I'm considering buying my own 48 foot trailer which I can store at a storage yard here. Once I find a permanent location for the assets I would sell or lease the trailer but that's not something I'm worried about right away.

I'm hoping someone could help me with a few questions.

Are their age restrictions on dry van trailers? If I purchase a trailer that's 20-25 years old can it still operate?

Are their transport companies that are willing to move the trailer or do they only haul their own?

How do companies charge for something like that? Is it based on weight or mileage or some combo?

If the trailer passes a state inspection, it's good to go. Have a qualified mechanic inspect it before taking out your wallet. Transport co's will haul the trailer, but be aware if the trailer is not road worthy, they will decline the move, but bill you for showing up. It's charged by mileage, with ending location playing into it. By this, I mean if the ending location is a "dead" area, they will charge more to move the truck to another area to get another load.

Yes. Trailer Transit to be specific. @Allow Me. has covered all the bases.
Judging from your post I would say it would be far cheaper to move the stuff in a couple of Penske Rental straight jobs and put the stuff into a self service storage joint.
