If a trucker is fired for receiving a public intoxication while on the road working for a company, does the company have any obligation to provide the driver a way of getting home? The driver I'm asking about was several states away from home, and financially unable to return home on his own leaving him stranded and homeless in the town he was arrested in.

I'm assuming the answer is no?

A company has no obligation getting a driver to orientation or when they are sent home packing. Most companies will pay for the trip to orientation.

    Thanks,

I certainly didn't see how a company would be obligated to do so, and figured it would only be done if they volunteered to help the person.

Getting him home is just part of the equation. The company has to send someone for the truck and load also. NO, not responsible for his screw-ups. Isn't life grand? P.S. It's a glorious feeling to be 900 miles from home with no $$, no food, no credit card, no friends, no transportation.

I should add, and should have included in my first post, there has been no solid conformation that he wasn't offered transportation home by the company. An article in the local paper, and his living situation, seemed to imply this. The article is about a man who was found dead and had been living in a vacant motel in Harrison Ar.

I was only curious as to what a trucking company was or was not obligated to do in a situation where one is terminated.
