I've been offered a recurring run from Chicago to Sarnia area but I don't have my passport yet. I have no clue about hauling into CA but going to have a meeting with LS's Canadian office about it. They can get me all squared away I guess. The load pays enough to only do 2 turns a week and I'm coming back empty which is good for mpg but bad for winter driving. I'm still on the fence about it.

That's 21.34 meters. Good to go, right..??

Did you check for the Ontario rules..??

Are you disappointed to find out you have only 260 wheelbase..??:biggrin_25520:

    just teasing...

Keep in mind that sarnia/Port Huron isn't a very fast border to cross. Might take a couple of hours now and then...

For empty winter driving you should have a 6x2... :yes2557::biggrin_25512: But that's another discussion...

Nah...I just swear I read and was told it was 265". I did the measurement 2x...but I dont think 260 or 265 really changes much per the Canadian rules. 6.5/6.6/6.7/6.8 meters plus the trailer still put me in good shape.

It's always good to know it, perhaps they need to know the wheelbase of your truck on the application for the permit...

I would probably use 265 since it doesnt affect anything either way. Better to put a longer value in than come up short I guess.
I am sure different people will measure it differently.

What is really sad about all of this? - I found better information from -THIS- forum than I did consulting with 2 attorneys that specialize in US/Canadian transport. The Quebec attny told me flat out that I was SOL for travel into Canada and yet here on the forum, someone took the time to locate me the paperwork I need for a yearly permit.

Now I will try and find someone to assist me with my RIN and Canadian Quebec business forms I need to file.
I cannot fill out this permit app until I have an RIN and need a representative in Quebec to list and likely file on my behalf.

The Quebec atty I wanted to use charges $380 for this and 1 other piece of paper.
Literally they are 1 page each.
I cant justify this expense but cannot fill these out on my own w/o a Quebec address or rep.
I will be calling "730 permits" and "Nova Permits" Monday and see what they charge to do this.

    SHC Thanks this.

My truck has a 285" wb and a 52" rear spread/ axle spacing on the tractor. Will that make a difference going into Canada??

You need the WB of the tractor (Wtractor) and the WB of the trailer (Wtrailer) and then convert both WB into meters....

    285" = 7.2meters.

Therefore, your trailer cannot exceed 11.87m (283") from the kingpin to the center of the trailer axles.
Since we both have spread axle trailers, I measured from the kingpin to exactly in between the tandem sets.

If your within 11.87m you can obtain a permit. If not, travel is NOT allowed into Quebec.

    Then look at this chart:
