I'd think something with bigger hp would be better upstate. Downstate around town could maybe make due with an underpowered truck.
Seen a couple decent setups on the craigslist. Heavy spec, big power, daycab, wet kit.
As was said: each truck has it's own history. Wouldn't buy one based on brand name if it was clapped out. Just have to really look at a truck to know if it's worth your while. -
Understood.. As far as Brand Im really Talking about 1990-1999 Mack info. Honestly Ive never heard of any Mack Engine that compairs to a Cat 3406 or a DT 60 series. Also I hear others mention the N-14 ect. I dont care about the truck make Im talkking setup..
Ive never had to put 60,000mi on a truck in a season so Ive never had to worry like this. My yards 10mi from a plant and i work within 20miles. D*mn thing hardly warms up when it chilly. HahahahaLast edited: Mar 17, 2016

@Ruthless ... Hey lemme ask ya.. Do you know anything about the c12' c13? Ive only had the 3406/c15.
I seem to remember someone saying they had a C-10 in a freightliner and it was junk. Said it was underpowered and it over worked & killed the engine. -
You do 4 axles..? Most old Macks around here are only 3 and don't have the wheelbase for 4.....
And no the older mack engines don't have the hp of the 3406 but we ran the crap out of them back in the day. The last one I ran was a E7 (I think, it was long ago) I liked it... -
@Cat sdp we run Tri axles.. Yes 4 total, tandem with a drop 18/20,000lb.
Honestly ive been thinking about that though. With the weight of the drop, for hauling purposes im really not going to be able to carry much more.. Ofcourse the braking is nice with the drop.
Also as far as the Engines I really mean reliability. If your considering the horsepower of a 3406 better than the Mack to not beat the engine i understand. -

10,12,13 liters would seem small to be pulling 120 on 7....
