i don't care much for the company's that train just like you said. a lot of company's like that seem to have a lot of equipment issues as well. that being said everyone's new at some point and if there's other drivers around they will normally lend a hand. i wouldn't let that completely scare you away but check out the trucks in there yard, and if there held together by duct tape run as fast as you can.

that is assuming that you are proficent in driving a truck in itself, i just noticed that it says student under your name. if you have to think about shifting gears or what your doing just to drive the truck you need to find a job that will train you first. if its just learning how to run a vac trailer that you need to learn then if there equipment is in good shape and everything seems up to snuff, then maybe give it a shot. its not like a company like that is gonna trash your dac report if you up and quit after two days. you can also try to talk to some of there drivers and get there opinion of the company.

Let me put it to you like this....30 something years ago, when my daddy started driving, they threw him the keys and that was about it. Same with my grandpa 50 something years ago.

There was no 50,000 mile training session, or CDL mills. They managed to just learn as they went, and Im confident you can too.

I thought thats what you meant lol.

Really though, so many people on here repeat that information to these students and wannabes and I got tired of it. I want everyone to know there are other options out there, and signing a contract with an OTR company is not the only way to get into trucking by any means!

i guess i should have read the thread before posting.

also 84 petes?, id be Leary of this company

keep in mind that oil feild miles are rough on a truck, take the millage on the truck and triple it and thats probably more realistic for the truck. a pete is a pete but a 84 is old. id take a 06 volvo before a 84 pete any day and twice on sunday.

between idle time and bad roads, and a company that will hire someone without even a test drive or give proper training and old trucks, i think i would run as fast as you can.

No longer a student, But if I was any more green I would be photosynthesizing.

That said, I can shift a truck. and do feel pretty comfortable behind the wheel. only thing i really feel nervous about is the surge in a tank that big. that and not getting paid i guess.

If the truck can pass inspection, who cares what it is? Money talks.

Id drive a piece of crap 20 year old International for $25 an hour over a brand new Pete 379 for $20 an hour as long as the ##### spreader can pass inspection.
