you know that, and i know that. but not every load wants to pay that. so, if you can't get bounce money. then it basically goes on your list of places to not go.
correct?????
some weeks it's there. and some weeks it isn't.
then you've got places. (denver) where some times there's a load. but the rate going in sucks and coming out sucks just as bad if not worse. and lately. i've only seen denver with 3 loads. while the rest come with a 200 mile bounce. and still don't pay.
does it make sense to go to denver??? if you can't get good in and out.

True, Landstar had a load from Houston going Williston North Dakota for $4,500 the Agent offer me up too $4,700 but i already was getting the truck loaded, real tempting for a area that's usually dead {only hay coming out}. And i Hate HAY loads.
peterbilt_2005 Thanks this. -
I agree we have locations here in the U.S that are one way loads. Nice pay going in, but then the other shoe drops. Being it $1.35/mile and weighing upwards to 48k with tarp required.
My broker has treated me well when It comes to loads. I don't have a problem with saying no, or asking for more.
As stated here it seems as if more and more inexperienced "brokers" are showing up. Getting loads taking their cut and rebooking it out on one of many load boards.
Typical for a lot of loads for a lot of drivers.
With the economy circling the drain, more and more are getting into the trucking industry just to survive. They are not choosing it, it has been a last hope. The Big box outfits using and abusing this new swatch of fresh meat for the grinder. Get paid Pennys. ( Example .13/mile) driving with a trainer in a under 100k mile auto with super singles 7 mpg truck.
And listening to rookie drivers boasting 8mpg and making a whopping .28/mile or .30/mile hauling that 1.00/mile cheap freight.
Just frustrating sometimes. Trying to get a load out of a dead area. -
Yes. Don't have a list of places you won't go. I mean that. A real respectable customer will remember you went when nobody else will go. There are more loads then what's on a load board.
Do you ever hear of me being slow or rates are just in the dumps? NO.
If you don't get the bounce money then approach things from a ddifferent anglepeterbilt_2005, MJ1657, passingthru69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
The same guys whining about rates will be the same guys whining about rates will be the same guys whining about rates.......
I spent most of this summer and last summer in ND and I've never pulled a load out of the state. Its really not that hard to figure out.peterbilt_2005 Thanks this. -
If your willing to work the money and loads are their.
MJ1657 and Cluck Cluck Thank this. -
Yea, I was thinking of buying a step-deck but I started looking around for a few months and said no way. Step-decks have a harder time trying to find freight, and the pay isn't all that much more than a flatbed, sometimes about the same. Its just another way the industry is getting more truck for the same price or less. Same thing when the broker ask for "No Headboard" Oversized freight that is somewhere around 55' long that doesn't want to pay extra for it. Hang 4 off the back, and 2 off the front and pay a flat $2.00 a mile for it. Forget it! And this new thing with the 53' flatbed, do you see any extra pay or more freight that needs that? Nope. I think I'm going to buy some old 45' flatbeds.

I took a good paying load up to NJ this week. Paid $150 in tolls, and guess what. Drove back 300 miles empty to get reloaded. Yea, all freight in the north-east has got a 44 cents per mile company driver willing to haul that $300 dollar freight that needs tarps, TWIC Card, 2 hours to load and unload, and has to deliver the same day or tomorrow. Screw That Crap!! Ride back South empty and get reloaded, instead of spending the entire day moving a $300 dollar shipment that will bring the company at least 100% profit. Screw the North East!

Tricks to getting more money.? Hmmm. If you have a broker listen to him (pay attention to pay, weight, tarp and distance). You will have brokers call u directly. 90% want the drivers number anyway. Just know what your bottom dollar is.
I turned down a load I couldn't believe this broker called me. Burney ca to central California. 48k, distance 750 miles Paid 800. Oh did I mention tarping. I couldn't stop laughing in his ear. Just as I was hanging up he booked the load to somebody for 690. -
If people stopped accepting "just above" rates coming in then inbound rates would also go up. If you are going to deliver to a totally dead area like Houston don't just charge a small premium, charge enough so you get $2 mile dead head out. If you only charge enough to dead head x miles out, you end up needing that cheap freight to subsidize you.281ric Thanks this.
