Yeah I have had a couple codrivers in the past who moved into the 21st century, who couldn't read a map or trip plan to save their life without the aid of a computer. It wasn't so much fun for them when they ended up staring at a 12 ft overpass. Or my one codriver who ended up at the airport in Salt Lake City driving in circles.

Oh and guess what...I use trip planning software, but only as guide not the bible

Myself, I believe that relying on doing things the easy way all the time is detrimental. Use your brain, read your atlas, use your qualcom directions, call the facility your going to. Get your self a truck stop guide and learn to plan your trips. I dont want to rely on a gps or computer to figure out what i can easyly do myself. Plus, scientific studies have shown that the brain works better the more you use it.

People have mentioned software to check out, however if you start off just letting a computer decide your route then you will fail in the long run. Humans input that information, humans make mistakes. Computers only provide information that is put in by humans.

Or. Say your gps or computer decides to take a crap and you've never read a map before. Good luck with that.

My Rand MCNally had me (going from Atlanta to Dallas) go to Birmingham, over to Memphis, through Little Rock to Dallas. If you used your GPS exclusively (instead of an atlas and a brain) you would have run 50 unnecessary miles out of route as BOTH cities are on the same frickin' Interstate!

A gps is a great tool BUT looking @ an atlas and realizing that your tool is wrong makes more sense to me.
