it’s 5pm you’re 200miles from your destination you have 3 hours on your clock left, traffic is slowed due to construction through several states it’s moving at 10mph for the next 100miles. The delivery time is 4am tomorrow. You’re telling me you would fight traffic for 3 hours for no good reason and end up being late

I wish that was still the way we could do things. Those days are gone forever..

Fortunately, I work for a small company that still operates that way. No forced routing and It is nice being trusted to know what the best route is for the situation.

We'll try this again, and maybe you'll understand why your "always as close as you can" isn't right. 4 pm, with 3 hours left and 300 miles to go and an 8 am appointment. You drive through Chicago at the cost of 3 hours, but only get 70 miles closer. That means when you start in the morning you will only have 3 hours to drive 220 miles. You miss the appointment. You stop in Northwest Indiana at 4 and have 6 hours to go 300 miles and make your appointment.

Do you mean to say you would fire a driver because he didn't drive 70 miles further so he could make his appointment, and keep the driver who failed to make his appointment for the simple reason that he drove those miles?

    I'm late to the party.

You recognized the situation, did what you had to do and got there on time. Sounds to me like the exact opposite of making excuses.

I will bring up one thing that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned. I don't know if it would have helped in this situation but taking 2 hours off until traffic eases and then driving those 3 hours and doing a split berth can work out well sometimes.

Not only do I like to get as far as I can today, I don't like messing with my sleep pattern if I can avoid it.

Taking 2 hours off doesn't pause the 14.

I wasn't suggesting it does. I don't know what was left on his 14. Just saying that it can be helpful to skip a couple hours of peak traffic sometimes.

    HA!
My load is never late. It was never late.
It was always there when I arrived.
Want it earlier than I can drive it? Put it on a plane.

i have stated my opinions and what i'd do if i were a company owner.

to continue to debate me or try to make me change my mind, is useless.

    it ain't gonna happen.
