Winchester has the right idea! Not only does his truck weigh about 350 lbs less w/out an APU, but it gets lighter and lighter as he burns up about 8lbs of fuel per hour.

Really, a 500 hp APU would be a great idea if it was used to light up my whole neighborhood.

Theoretically, an APU will pay for itself in the long run by saving fuel and wear and tear on your engine. I have a Tri Pak and nobody has to make any "communistic" laws to tell me to give my engine a rest. I can't shut it down fast enough. I really can't understand why any truck owners who pay for their own fuel would wait for a law to tell them to shut their motor down.

The Tri Pak works great by the way. I can heat up a can of soup by putting next to the heater vent. Only complaint is that the heater vent blows out from under the bunk, so if I don't close the big curtain it really just keeps the driver's seat nice and toastie, while I freeze in my bed. But with the curtain closed the bunk stays plenty warm.

I havent owned either one but from what Ive seen the carrier is the better unit, just because of less noise and carrier refeer units are darn good.

I have a Carrier Comfort Pro and it has more than paid for it's self in the 3 1/2 years I have had it. My truck does not idle except to cool the engine and I stay comfortable. I bought the Carrier unit because it runs a 120 A/C and Heater and has a generator. The A/C or Heator can be run from shore power without the APU engine running.

I have a Comfort Master 3 cyl isuzu engine ,very cold and hot and you can t hear it running. New state laws will give you 400 LB extra weight if you have APU.burns 0.22 per hour

Don't know about carrier but I have a tripack. I sleep on the top bunk so I dont have to fold my table down and there have been times I have almost froze my but off because I set the ac temp to cold have to get up and turn it off. Haven't used the heater but a couple times and it works pretty good. When I am home for a few days I dont have to worry about the frig running my battery dead

I'm having a Comfort Master installed next week. Did my research and for me, it was the obvious choice. Looking forward to all the benefits.

Tripak are the quietest and most reliable. I don't know about Comfort Master. But I compare at truck stops and everyone I heard is more noisier. Maybe the CM is so quiet I never noticed, lol. And being a reefer hauler with experience with ThermoKing and Carriers, ThermoKing wins hands down. I frown everytime I pick up a Carrier :) Carrier APU's are the loudest on the market.
I have over 13000 hrs on my Tripak with only minimal maintainance. And if you did need service, there is a ThermoKing shop everywhere.

The 400 lb APU weight didn't work in Louisiana when she made me slide my fifth wheel to get 800 lbs off my drives.

There is only 22 states that allow this and I can tell you North Carolina aint one of them. North Carolina is one of the 9 that dont allow weight exemption at all. Reason I know I have to keep up with it My empty weight with a half tank of fuel is (drum roll) 36,700 and the company I pull for freight consist of 99% paper normally between 40k to 45k About every monday I load in SC and cant get out because being over 300-400lbs. About 70% of the time I have to return to the dock to have some pulled off.
