if you heard somebody say on the radio "how 'bout it west-bound Double Diamond...you got your ears on?"

What trucking company would they have been talking about? They were pretty big, ranked #5 in the nation at one time.

(btw there is at least one outfit called Double Diamond now but the company I speak of folded 1986)

Mclean truck lines. They were container haulers out of NC. They were also believed to have the slowest trucks on the highway. The logo of the company was a double diamond. So they qued the slow lane to be called the double diamond.

Learned a great deal from looking for this answer.

Malcolm Mclean, the founder of Mclean trucking also is the pioneer in developing the modern shipping container. How far the transportation industry has come from the owner of the slowest trucks on the road. Haha.

Coincidentally container trucks are still the slowest on the road.

And I must add it was more than just a few years ago. In fact I don't think I was in my teens when they closed up shop and I am now 47. When they closed the old man ended up working casual for C.F.. until he got a full-time gig for ABF in Springfield Illinois
