Tropical Storm Harvey, South Texas 8/25

Grandpa had a rather low opinion of the Red Cross. The Army had him fighting in Europe and North Africa during WWII, and the Red Cross would set up to provide coffee and donuts to the troops...but they charged 'em a small fee for it. 'Til the day he died, if the Red Cross was involved, he wanted nothing to do with it.

 

Tis' why we aren't sending cash or perishables. Hopefully the commodities we send make it there, as Ohio has many an O/O hauling straight to the depot in Texas. Nothing we'd miss, just trying to help.

 

I sure remember the FEMA trailers....

Only the very lucky get to go out that way. The rest of us continue to grow old, and it SUCKS.

 

You know just when I thought America had lost her mind, something terrible comes along and makes me remember why I'm proud to be here.

Some of us are really hurting right now. People are out in boats rescuing one another. Strangers are opening their homes. Americans all over are donating water, food, blankets, clothes... anything that can help. Truckers are driving into dangerous conditions to get that much needed aid to those hurting folks. We morn together we hurt together, we come together - and we always will.

Houston, hang in there. Help is on the way. We're all praying for you.

 

Apparently Corbin Tx has a chem plant for making that stinky stuff that reveals propane gas as part of what they make. They have been trying to maintain refridgeration against explosion etc. from flooding. Generators gone, loaded either rail cars or tractor trailers reefer to monitor remotely (Qualtracs maybe? Or something else?) and apparently the water has disabled or hurt some of the reefers. They are going nuts down there.

This is like a bad train wreck, spend a day and night following every little development on this biblical storm.

Makes me sometimes think all of our efforts are somehow futile.

Most people wont or cannot get to a toll road anyhow. Im leaning towards the wont. Where you gonna go? Eh?

 

Thank you for the prayers and support from all of you my fellow truckers, today we houstonians were able to see the sun and it felt a sign of relief, I would like to thank the help from all truckers who are coming to Houston to still deliver facing such challenge. We are always going to be grateful to have brave truckers to come and deliver along with our first responders and also RIP to Sgt Perez (HPD) who tragically lost his life while going to work and serve the people of houston.

I forgot about the FEMA trailers, maybe the fumes are gone and they can use them now,
I used to see them parked of a highway somewhere. I forget where

 

Hope, AR used to have a bunch of 'em rotting in a field...

 

He said there weren't any signs letting him know the tolls were free. That would definitely have helped. Texas needs to consolidate their tolls into one pass, like Oklahoma and Kansas. The Oklahoma sticker is good for OK and KS and some northern Texas tolls. But Houston and other parts of Texas you would end up covering your windshield in toll passes. PIA in normal times and running relief loads without cash in your pocket...just put up some signs.

 

There use to be a whole lot of them on 59 in missisipi after Katrina for as long as the eye could see.
