I was in a accident with a truck driver story short he gave me expired registration and expired insurance. I call the police and he told me why I called the police..at the time of he giving me the information I didn't know they were expired..because he hit me when he merge to the lane I was so he told me that it was he fault and the company was going to take care of everything gave me the company number and told me he can't stay. Then when I calm down noticed that the paperwork was expired no wonder he left. Then the trooper called to see where we were but I informed him that the trucker left and reply saying then is unnecessary to go to location. My question giving expired registration and insurance paperwork are legal or illegal... it was obvious he didn't want to stop he stopped like 1000 to 2000 feet from where the accident occurred he came out of the truck talking in the phone and all like it was nothing...I had to drive up to him and all this and he come and told sorry I didn't see you I was in the phone...the negligence its crazy.

First thing you should have taken a picture of the side of the truck. All the info you would need to track him down should be right there decaled on the side. A lawyer should be able to track him down in 10 minutes with all that info.

This was a semi? Did you take a picture of it? There should be a DOT number on the side. That can be traced back to an insurance policy.
Do you have the name of the trucking company? Call them directly. Drivers sometime don't keep up with their in cab documents.
Have you talked to your own insurance company yet? They may go after the trucking company for you. -
In one country what he did is normal...

if what you have in your possession is expired, it will be tracked back to the company and driver. Call your insurance company and tell them what happened, what you have, and what he said and did.
We had this happen a couple of times, handing out expired anything is a bad thing for a truck driver.
I would also have told the trooper not to skip going there to take your report and tell you if the car is safe to drive. -
I'm sorry to hear about the accident you were involved in and the difficulties you've faced with the truck driver. It must have been frustrating and unsettling to discover that the registration and insurance information provided to you were expired.

As has been said, photo and/or video evidence is vital. I was forced into the dith on a mountain road by a semi that cut the bend before me with his trailer.
The driver was Romainan, the tractor, Slovakian and the trailer, Italian. The driver stopped and was very helpful staying with me for 2 hours to help with thr eventual recovery but, as we had no common, language he would not give any details or sign anything.
I filmed everything, including close ups of all the writing on the trailer. It took a couple of months but finally every last penny was paid back to me.
Cherokee65 Thanks this. -
In most places, it is illegal for a driver to operate a vehicle with expired registration or insurance. Given the circumstances, it's important to document everything about the accident and seek legal advice from as soon as possible. They can provide you with guidance on how to proceed and help protect your rights.Last edited by a moderator: Apr 29, 2024
