What is the purpose of a TRUCK CHECK station? There is one I went thru on i-29 South in South Dakota. What is the procedure for this when it is open? I saw trucks drive in, go slow thru it, and then go back on the interstate.

It's just like a scale house only without a scale, thy will see someone thy want to inspect a little closer and flag them over for a closer look.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
when those white vans are in there. just keep it hammered down and blow the air horn. try to make it down to the TA in council bluffsBuster Churry, bzinger, Long FLD and 5 others Thank this.

Some of those check stations we'll just want to check your paperwork and send you on your way. The Port of Entry in Wyoming is like that. The scale house in Colorado will do the same thing. No big deal

How do you know if they want to inspect you? There was a silver van there today with yellow lights flashing and two guys sitting in it with a laptop. Like I said though, truckers would drive pass the van and then go back on the interstate. I think I’m just over thinking it but, I want to avoid a ticket and looking like a dingus.

In Pennsylvania and New York they set you at random spots. You drive through those types and they will select you randomly. I saw one in New York in which they directed a truck to park in one of those rest area spots they block off. If they felt like inspecton you they'll direct you to park in a designated spot when you roll through. Some places target certain drivers or companies more based on saftey score or whatever criteria. The more traditional weigh station in West Memphis will always have a lot of container drivers parked, seeing the abundance of rail yards in Memphis, and a lot of chassis are pretty crappy equipment...fairly frequent violationsMattflat362 Thanks this.
