There is nothing anonymous about me, everyone knows where I work, I've met numerous flatbed forum posters in person and talked to many more on the phone.
Like MJ said, us regulars get tired of uneducated and misinformed people coming on here constantly spreading incorrect information.
Ps you are the one cursing like a juvenile, not me but keep bypassing the rules by skirting the swear filter. You are doing your daddy proud!MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Sometimes I wonder if some customers are alright in the head when they request things of drivers with their loads. -
Or worse yet, lumber wrapped in plastic covered in snow picked up and dropped outside.
-
If I was incorrect, then I stand corrected.
And nope, not cursing. I actually put the word 'f-word' in those brackets. The forums didn't do that, I did.
And it's ummm, 'camp'. Not 'champ'.
But seriously, I digress.
For since before forever, truck drivers have been hollering about organizing their work force to try to create change in the industry, and thereby the way drivers are treated/paid by it. That kind of organization is never going to happen, so long as drivers continue to troll and snipe at other drivers to no purpose, other than to start arguments, any time another driver tries to contribute something useful.
Like seriously. Thank about it. Want to create an organized workforce? Then for chrissakes, stop the pointless bickering and work together to get organized! -
It's hard to create an organized work force with misinformation. And for the record I'll organize myself. It works quite well for me.Highway Sailor, TripleSix, KenworthGuyNH and 1 other person Thank this. -
I can remember one incident in particular where the shipper I picked up from, lost the customer I delivered to, over this sort of thing.
I was delivering a load of steel tube to a pipe-laying company out in Wyoming. Because it is always so windy there, and because that company always stored the pipe outdoors anyway, they had told the shipper that they did not want tarps on the load. But, that shipper being that shipper, insisted upon their rule that every load be tarped before it is permitted to leave on the truck.
The receiver was livid. He had to assign four of his people to help me untarp and fold my tarps, because the wind was gusting up to 60 mph. "I told them I did not want this shipment tarped!" he told me. "Who told you to tarp it?!"
When I explained that the shipper insisted upon it, insisted it with every load, and in fact, wouldn't let a truck leave with the load until it was tarped (it was even marked to that effect on the bills), the owner straight away, got on the phone with the shipper and told them that they were not to send another load his way. I remember his words precisely to this day.
"When I say 'no tarps' [swear word], I mean no [swear word] tarps! It will be a cold day [in that hot place] before you'll ever get another order from me!"
Some people just make up a blanket rule, and then enforce it on everybody without thought. Had the shipper known the man's wishes, they would have told me the load was not to be tarped. But because, doubtlessly, management, caught up in their own little worlds, either overlooked or just decided to disregard the customer's wishes in favor of their own rules, just failed to (or chose not to) pass the word on to the loading personnel. As a result, they lost themselves a customer.Zeviander Thanks this. -
And every single time that someone decides, pointlessly, to get in my face about it from the safety of their anonymity, they're going to get to hear about it.
K?
Awesome.
Glad we had this discussion. -

Per thread title, Driver killed by his load, April 1987. This guy was a friend of mine. Tanker load of liquid fertilizer shoved the cab into the dirt because a couple 4 wheelers didnt think to warn traffic at 3am.
