No you do not tend to believe them you read everything before you move your truck. The permit does not just give you dates but also routing information. You have to check all of it to make sure it's correct, or it must be corrected before you move the load at all.

We do permit loads out of a local Air Force Base and take bulk material of some kind to a location about 8 hours away. They are permitted over-weight loads with Air Force Escort normally 2 black Ford Excursion. We never enter the scales, I believe they call ahead to notify them of the shipment. I do not know what is in the trailers. They (Who ever they are) take care of loading and unloading. They call it dispensing and recovering. The trailer is alway very clean when it is returned to us. And they are 1 stop loads , never in the same place, and never my choice.

Look if the driver was doing his job the permit would have been corrected before the truck was moved.

No excuse, you can't blame DOT when you are negligent by 6000 lbs. This was not that important of a item as far as the defense department was concerned or it would have been escorted, and would have never entered the scale.

Typical of drivers today to want to blame someone else for there short falls.

It was more that he took care of the fine and the permits and still wasn't allowed to leave even though he was legal. They were just being jerks.

Well first of all I know this is an old post.
But reading the company he works for says alot.
The police also said they wanted to make sure he had an Iowa permit.

No problem it's a 10.00 permit. Yes cheap.
Standard issue time. 1 day max by looking at the pic.
    Easy rting.

Then it stated he had to go to several ATMs to get his money..
Bennett did'nt write him a com check??

Could be he over advansed allready for the load.

Plus he could have scaled out somewhere to check his wghts.

His Wy. permit would of had the weight on it by axle groups..

His fault not Ne. in my opinion

Make sure to read the article, you mind find some useful info.

Its still ALL about the revenue.

I don't see where they have the authority to shut down a load at a port for being overweight. And then deny the driver
from unhooking his trailer and bob tailing to a TS to get some thing to eat. Once bob tail he is legal.
If it was for a logbook violation then yes, they would be within their right to say no you can't leave.

In the article, it stated the letter was faxed to Lincoln.
He did not have it on him..

It could have been lded. on a bigger trl. to, but his company was trying to do it cheap.
Some states will give you more per axle grouping than others.

Funny thing is, if he had been on the 2 lane in Ne. He can get more weight.
This is fact. Ne. uses Fed. formula on interstate and have a more relaxed formula on the state rtes.

I was talking to a guy who delivers firetrucks for Seagrave. He wsa taking a tandem axle ladder truck out to Vegas and was going to go through WY. He called ahead for the permit and they ask his weight and number of axles. He had 3 axles and was at 84,000 lbs. The permit cost over $800 just for WY.

Yep, Wy. raised their fees in 2008.
Last trip through there on 13 axles across I-80 was 2500.00

They go by the weight / axle spacings and the rte. you are travelling.
2 lane road is even higher.

Thank goodness we pass this back to the customer..

Some outfits it comes out of the O/O money..
They will say there is money for the permits in your linehaul. Yea right some there is enough and other times not enough.

Fine by me, long as I don't have to pay income taxes :biggrin_255:

The last simple over width permit I got was only like $25. Did they raise that too? My last OD load would have been in 07.
