i am not sure for om444 it is already out of production as much i know
but i have some question about MTU, does man and mercedes still use their engines

Not on highway....
Mercedes will use OM471/DD11/13/15 for class 8 trucks only, MAN - D28 only. Mercedes keeps using OM501/502 and OM457/460 till all parts for Actros MP3 and Axor be used. After that Mercedes will sell MP4 only. All class 8 trucks on US market will get the same engine with Detroit diesel label, but EPA2012! -

yes, and not for MAN and MB only, for Titan, MZKT, KZKT, BZKT, Astra and other...
