A conversation I had today with my agent from a major brokerage.

Tell him if it’s no big deal, then pay it out of his pocket. Until then he can...
I had a multiple pick/single drop that one of the picks fell off shortening by about 200 miles. Broker called sounding weird, so I’m figuring he wants to renegotiate, but he couldn’t find the fortitude to do it.

Theyre actually parking brand new unfinished Ford trucks everywhere up there around Louisville that they've built but only need chips for. I heard the infield at the Kentucky Speedway Nascar track was full of them too.

I had some jerk off tell me pretty much the same thing the other day ago. These guys come to all of "their carriers" or random people they call from a posting on a transactional load to load basis and act like they're doing you some kind of huge favor. They don't remember you as soon as they hang up the phone. If he really was doing such a slam dunk job he wouldn't be calling anybody trying to cover his POS loads.

Brokers are about to get weirder and more competitive. We're just at that point in the cycle. Carriers, at least dry van, have signed their own checks for the last year or so, it's starting to swing the other way, brokers want the ball back.

Just the cycle as i see it. And no, I don't like it either, but it's always back and forth.

Dune, that interaction above is why I really don't want any regulars, contracts or relationships with brokers. I have one or two who are consistently good but IMO this business is just too cutthroat to be friends for long.

Although I've been parked since December 24th of last year, it seems to me that any owner operator not making real good menudo right now in this current cycle is doing it all wrong?

Here's a sampling of van/refer rates outs of the L.A. area today. And this is from some mega-brokers who are keeping a big percentage on top of what they're offering.

I read an article on DAT this morning about the container ship backup on both coasts and how there is going to be an available truck shortage in the coming weeks. It said that ships have to anchor 8 days off of the SoCal coast to get unloaded, and many ships are diverting to the east coast because of the delay. I think we're in for a busy summer.

I'm on a $5.50 per mile (on 710 miles) Walmart load right now and it's only 10 pallets of bottled water. Things are getting crazy again. It gives me second thoughts about retiring this year, although some of my stocks are going through the roof too. I've got no complaints.
