Truck Owners ANGRY and Scared Over Fuel Costs

You would think companies would be behind some sort of action with the way there drivers waste fuel. I know when it's not my truck I'm sure not going to be hot or cold. I'll idle away for weeks on end and be nice and comfy

 

Brick don't throw in the towel yet.
That's what happened to mixers and dump O/O's and all that was mostly left were the low-rates. Once quality drivers leave well the low-rates stay in and make it hard for the guys who try to stick it out charge a fair rate.
I just got a call from one of my brokers for working the ten wheeler tomorrow. We're still at $82 per hour with his contractor and they're one of the few who know what quality means and are willing to pay for it too. This broker is a great guy he settles in two weeks and only takes 5%. I just wish he could keep me busy.

 

Don't those company trucks have idle limiters?
Mine is set for 8 minutes and off it goes.

 

There are even a few O/Os still doing it. Makes no sense.


As for the company drivers apparently the companies are still making so much money they aren't going with APUs or setting the trucks to shut down after 5 to 10 minutes.

 

When you no longer have fuel money or able to pay the bills what choice do you have?

No. You couldn't have that on an otr truck without some way to either heat or col the truck otherwise or to over ride it. The only ones I've ever seen would disable when you idled it up. If you just left it sitting at low idle it would shut off

 

I must confess. I am bad about idling. I won't sleep hot or cold

 

I doubt they'll remain O/Os for too much longer.

They might as well be doing this:

 

I'm talking about 50s and 60s with a nice breeze.


I like to be comfortable too, I just wish these brain deads would give me their extra fuel since they don't need it.

You getting an APU for your OTR truck?


I was going to get one, but I better wait for a few weeks to see what shakes out.
