Hello Everyone,
I have been told by some companies that they would "assist" me in finding a place to park my truck as I live in a condo and cannot park truck at home. These of course are companies with no terminals in my city which is Columbus, Ohio. Has anyone had experience with companies helping you to find a place to park truck, and, do you end up absorbing the cost for the space? ANY info. would be greatly apprecaited!! I am getting ready to start school and need to make decision on a company. THANKS!!!

there are some things you can do...
if you have a "regular customer" you can ask for permission
if you have a shopping center, you need to ask the OWNER of that center for permission.
Wal-Marts "MIGHT" let you park.
every stinking company i did OTR for told me, "find a secured place"...well then i said i found not one but 3 and they want "rental"....
i was told, "that's on you we do NOT reimburse for that"
i parked my truck about 2 miles away....it got vandalized, ticketed, and i never paid the tickets...to this day, i am sure i pissed off those companies....
those places that wanted "rent"..??
were tow yards, tall barbed wire fences, well lite up, BIG DIRTY STINKY DOGS......
oh well, not my problem, it'll be a cold day in Hell when I HAVE TO PAY for a company truck to be parked, and NOT get reimbursed... -
Some companies will reimburse you for any parking fees charged by property owners who let you park the company's truck on the property. Might talk to area businesses you frequently patronize when you are in town...grocery store, restaurant, church, etc...places where you are a familiar face and might know someone. Are there any truck stops in the area? Talk to the manager to find out whether it would be acceptable for you to park the company truck at the truck stop for the day or two whenever you are in town. Heck, if there's a truck stop in town, if you are only going to be home for a day or two, it wouldn't be any different than someone parking there to take a 34 hour restart...except you aren't in the truck.
Never EXPECT anyone to say yes, and be prepared to offer money in exchange for parking the truck. If you are OTR and will only be home 2-3 days per month, be sure they understand that when you ask.
WHEREVER you intend to park the truck, it would be a good idea to leave your name and phone number with the manager of the property just in case there is an incident involving the company's truck or the truck stop needs it moved for one reason or another. The quicker/easier it is for a property owner to get in touch with you if he needs to, the more likely it will be for that property owner to view the experience as a pleasant one. For example, if he needs the truck moved ASAP for whatever reason, and he has to get the phone number off the side of the truck to call the company...and the company needs him to go back out to get the truck number so they know which truck to look up in their computer to find out who's driving it....and then the company calls you, but since it is your time off, you screen the phone call so as not to be hassled...so they leave you a voice mail...which you check 3 or 4 hours later as you are climbing into bed and remember that the company left you a voice mail that afternoon.....but by then, the property owner is seriously pi$$ed off because that truck hasn't been moved yet and he called 5 hours ago needing it moved. Needless to say, you probably won't be able to park there much longer....so leave your phone number with the property owner and answer the phone when he calls.Strider Thanks this. -
Secure parking can be had at storage places as well.Leaving a truck at a store or truckstop with no one monitoring what happens can get awful expensive.
You are issued the truck. You are responsible for it's condition. You are also responsible for any and all cargo in that truck. -
Thanks for the info Pedigree, know what to do now. Have a great weekend!

Thank you Tazz and Rerun, Have a great weekend!!

Nope easy. Secure your vehicle

Even when secured, you run the risk of someone trying to get to it. Just the nature of the thief.

When I rented a spot way back in the 80's, The guy next to me rented his on spot and he was a company driver. I ask why he would pay for it and not get reimbursed, he said what he paid for rent was like paying for he's gas in his car for commuting only he didn't have to drive an hour each way, in other words time and gas money was worth it he replied.
Strider Thanks this.
