Hey guys,
Is there any tips for a pulling newbie?
I'm guessing its around 600hp with a 13 speed and 3.56 rears. Wondering what gear to run in, suspension - chained or not, power divider - locked or not, etc.
The truck has the stupid traction control but if I unplug an abs sensor it will disable it. As soon as a wheel spins it pulls all the power out, not a good thing.....
Any pointers would be appreciated!!

Don't pull with a company truck.
-
LOL....good answer! Who even makes 3.56 gears? Anybody would be nuts to wanna pull with any tranny or diff's with a '3' in any of the numbers...
-
Pulling with 3's in the axle will put to much stress on the u joints. The all wheel drive trucks that I have run across have at least high 4's in the axles and some even run up into the 6's. they are not OTR trucks but they can do 60 mph or better on the highway. But then again off road it is more important to get there than save a little fuel.

He owns the truck. I pulled in 4th when I did it last year with a 13speed and 3.70's. I also had 2700rpm but I had tons of wheel speed.
billandlori Thanks this. -
Yep, it's my truck, my rebuild.
I am not going to be using this as a pulling truck only, just wanted to try it out as a "street semi" not a full out professional puller. I don't have the kind of money to have a toy like that.
Thanks Kevin, I think 4th sounds like a good choice.
So does anyone have any thoughts on the suspension etc?

Does yours have the dual leaf airliner?
-
Yep! I have heard of guys dropping the air out and putting chains around the frame and axle and then putting the air back in to keep it from hopping.

You might be alright with the dual springs. I had hopping when I pull but its wasnt THAT bad. It only had a single rear leaf suspension, I find the dual trucks of ours are much stiffer.

Chain the rear axle, drop air psi to 25 psi and let her eat!! 3rd gear depending how tight the track is should be ok.
