Any tips about the truck similater, my husband didn't do so well with this but he has already been with a trainer for 2 months and is now waiting for a flat bed so while waiting they have got him doing things to kill time. He had his training in Pittston and is in MO now. He has done well with his trainer and thought everything was good to go but now he is afraid the truck similater is going to hold him back. They are going to have him do it again tommorow. He only did this one time since the PA term. doesn't have (or he did not get to do) the similater while in training. :biggrin_25521:

What specifically is he having trouble with? Is it the Smith System or the upgrade test? If it's on the backing section of the upgrade test, tell him he can "GOAL" by going to the instructors desk and they will give him a top down view of everything. The simulator room is usually open to everybody unless a Smith System class is using it. He can go in during normal business hours and just run random simulations. Even if he isn't doing the exact course, it'll help to just get familiar with how the simulator works.

If it's the Smith System he's having issues with, tell him to float the gears instead of trying to double clutch. That could help. They don't care if you float them and it's 1000% easier. When I went through it, they didn't seem to care if your speed was a bit slow. So have him just take his time. If he hits something, game over.

I found it to be pretty easy. I think it's probably just the nerves getting to him. He just needs to relax, take his time (they give you plenty), use his GOAL, and get er done.

Maybe if you tell us exactly what he's failing on we can give some pointers.

Thanks for your reply and advice, since my post my husband has passed the test. It was for upgrade and he said his trouble was with serpentine backing I think. Luckily the last time he took the test the person over the similater for that day let him do a course that he believed was a little bit easier for him and he was able to pass. My hubby does get nervous when someone is over him and the pressure is high, during his time with his trainer he had no problems that the trainer made aware so I think it was just the nerves. He is getting ready to hit the road, haven't spoke to him today so I am hoping all is well.
He is doing flatbed div. any tips for someone just starting out own their own?

Good for him. I was going to say... it is pretty easy. He must have just been nervous. Congrats on him passing it. :biggrin_255:
