okay, okay....let's do the math here. if i put my truck on i-90 and ran non-stop at 65 and never broke my cruise and another driver did the same thing at 62 i would beat him by 30 minutes and that's over a whopping 10 hour run. big deal! 70 to 65 and you saw no difference in mpg? that's pure bs! i check my own based off the gallons i buy and the odometer and you better believe there's a difference. about 1/2 mpg. doesn't sound like much but i'm also not footing the fuel bill on 2,000 trucks every day. if i wuz i would venture to say i'd have a much, much different perspective. hey, look i'd luv to keep running 65 or even 75 for that matter but if tmc says that's whut they gotta do to make sure i have a job then so be it. i ask around at the truckstops and the cb like we all do and there ain't very many companies hiring right now especially ones that can get me home to my family every wknd and still pay my bills. some of us are old enough to remember back to the carter administration and how tough times were then. remember the national 55 mph speed limit?? times are tough and they're going to keep getting tougher for the foreseeable future so you just have to grin and bear it or the alternative is to jump ship and take your chances elsewhere and that's a risk i can't afford to take.

Well, like someone else said, if it was "do this or lose your job" id think the truck washes would be on the way out as well. Going from 70MPH to running 65 On your own in an ungoverned truck may give you an increase, governing it is worthless, especially with a 13 speed.. 62MPH is a little low, you might not even need to hit the high end of that last gear, and good luck on the hills =P
I understand why they are doing what they are doing, though i tend to believe that many companies are capitalizing on the poor economy and screwing their drivers in various ways under the guise of "Surviving". It also doesn't change the fact that it sucks for the drivers.
It's all politics. And you are correct on your 30 minute thing, however 30 minutes adds up, (just like that 1/2 gallon every mile saved adds up) and, in your own words "it may not seem like much... but.." Yes, it adds up. You will need to log differently, etc. The example that i used there by making drivers spend more time also diddn't pertain only to the speed reduction, but in many of the other recent changes that saves them money at the drivers expense.
I will give them credit, though. They did start trimming fat out of the offices before they bothered the drivers with anything, which is much more than i can say for ALOT of other companies out there. So they still have my respect for the most part. =P And i'm not really complaining as much as i am making conversation, because you have to admit, whatever the reason may be, it still sucks sitting behind the wheel of a nice shiny pete that'll only run 65, let alone 62.. Sheesh i'd fall asleep =( -
TMC wont save one red cent by turning those trucks down...not a single penny.
Because a truck has to be "set up" from the engine all the way back to the rear differentials to get good fuel mileage.
My Dads 379 averages over 7mpg...18 speed with a high geared rear end (forget now exactly what it is...but its top speed is faster than most cars), 550 Cat engine.
Maverick trucks...14 liter Detroits (515 HP and they are not turned down) over 80% of the fleet is getting 6.7 mpg or better. My last Schneider truck...exact same engine as this one, but geared different...averaged 6.2 mpg when driven at 63 mph.
This Maverick truck averages 7.0 and I drive it at 63 mph most of the time...but I have gotten a few tight dispatches and had to hammer down to make the pick up or delivery (70 mph...only when the speed limit permits) -
If they do actually save any significant amount, that's just going toward paying the consultant that gave them the advice. In reality, they aren't saving anything for at least another year anyway.

Getting my truck washed every week(required)-$55
Getting my truck washed 52 times a year-$2850
TMC washing 2500 trucks every week for a year-$7,150,000.
TMC has the best looking moving roadblocks on the interstate.
I got that message about tampering with the qualcomm and not adding anything to the trucks. Wonder if they would get mad if I put a slow moving vehicle triangle on the back of the trailer. -
At the very least we should have a sign that said top speed 62mph in bright neon orange on the rear of the trailers....or maybe we should just ride with the 4 ways on at all times to warn people so they don't run into the back of us.....

I talked to my trainer today, he said they are done paying trainers training bonuses and trainees the $.10/mi to drive to their trainers. I was 370 miles round trip when I was training every weekend, they were paying me for 298 (TMC's short miles in full effect), that didn't even pay for the fuel it took to drive the trip. At any rate, seems like I got out at a good time, good luck to the rest of the drivers still there.

YET ANOTHER CHANGE...ALL FULL SERVICES HAVE BEEN MOVED UP TO 40,000 MILES INSTEAD OF 30,000...
Was scheduled for next week, now postponed...Actually happy about this one...Get to get another 10,000 miles in @65mph before I bring my Pete in to get his nuts cut off.... -
That is until they catch you at one of the drop lots. Heard that they were at Silver Grove today turning down trucks.
joecool313 Thanks this.
