As you are aware, state and federal policy makers are increasingly looking to toll funding as a method to pay for new highway infrastructure. However, there is a significant proportion of truck traffic that bypasses toll roads. Through this study, TRB seeks to find out what factors are involved in choosing to use or avoid a toll road. We are looking for any truck drivers, dispatchers and anyone affiliated with the commercial trucking industry to take a moment to take our quick on-line survey.
Please go to our project website: look for truck tolling study to access the surveys. These surveys are anonymous, and should take no more than 10 minutes of your time. Thanks so much!

I took it but for company drivers it makes no sense. I am not allowed to use tolls for any reason unless company approves it first. I have to drive 15-20% out of route to avoid the PA TPK on a regular basis. It needed to ask questions for company drivers and didn't. The vast majority of drivers now are company drivers. A company driver paid by the mile should be allowed by the law to use the shortest route or be paid for the overage of miles. If the company wants to save $75 by subtracting the extra fuel from what the tolls would have cost that's fine and dandy but the Driver eats the 60-100 miles or burns that much extra time in the log book he could have ran 60-100 miles. The savings come off the driver's back in lost time and wages not the company, the biggest loser in avoiding the tolls is the company driver.

Yeah. I'm going to take a poll to give you guys more ideas on how to keep my sorry butt on toll roads I can't afford. I'll tell you why I avoid tolls. I can't afford them. One end of PA to the other for me is $175. For a 300-mile stretch of road. And I have to pay road tax on top of it. (That would be IFTA, by the way.)

Nope. Not going to help you gouge me or my brothers and sisters. Forget it.

Tolls paid to the state for general funds, like NJ, are a tax on interstate shipments and should be outlawed!

I will always find a way to go around a toll road. I also refuse to run greater sections of Kansas, New York, Pa and other areas where they want to rape you with tolls.

I think toll roads are a bad idea, I think they are the mark of bad government. and I refuse to use them on principal and not cost. After all why would I allow my tax dollars be used to build something, then be charged for its use.

We already pay enough in highway use tax, and fuel tax, and everything else. That and I have noticed that anything avalible on a toll road is more expensive because they have a captive market. And I just think that is wrong.
