Hey TennMan. This so called useless item has saved us 3 sets of tires so far this year. Very few "operators" left if you know what i mean. For the cost of 1 tire, i outfit 8trailers for the year. Just tryin to save a buck!
It's called "paying attention"... You don't need to waste money on stuff like this if your just pay attention and watch what you are doing... Besides the fact that if you really need to make sure the tires are turning.. Like others said chalk, duct tape etc will do the trick... No offence to the product as sure it will work as well.. So it's not really a scam because it does what it is advertised to do it's just that there are cheaper alternatives that will work the same.. Plus duck tape can be used for other things as well other then just having one function..
I worked for a company that got the wedges of yellow colour bleed into the tire when recapped, they still had tires skidded to the point of being junk. No mater what you do you have to have the driver actually look.
I can see how they might help draw the attention of a driver that doesn't watch for these things normally. Lots of employees out there that don't pay attention to their equipment like they should because the bills don't come out of their pocket.
Yeah that's pretty bad attitude for them to have.. I am talking about the drivers who treat company equipment like crap because they don't the repair bills and the ownership doesn't say their name.. I drive my company truck like it is my own... I take care of it keep it nice and clean.. I make sure everything is working on it and if not then I report it to the mechanic or I will fix it myself if it is something that I can do with the tools I have in the truck... I also drive as if I am paying for the tires, clutch, fuel and the list goes on.. I don't jackknife the trailer where it can be avoided (we go to places that you have no choose) but I will take as much room as I can to make my turns.. I can't believe the amount of times I have seen drivers make such sharp turns that the tires on the trailer are at the point they start to go backwards... Sorry for going off topic.. but ya I think company drivers need to take care of the equipment they drive.. Less downtime for your truck and trailer and less money the company needs to spend on repairing and replacing items..
We get EBD trailers coming into work with these on, that stick out past the trailer body. I can see how with the wide tires replacing duals that it may be harder to see the tires under the trailer, since they don't seem to come as close to the edge of the trailer body.
They are no different to those yellow tabs that do the same thing but connect to the wheel at a lug nut.
So what is the advantage of these over the yellow plastic straps that basically every trailer that runs in canada has mounted on the lugs?
