I wanted a W900 or 379 pretty bad when I was truck shopping. Reality made me narrow it down to a Volvo, Kw600, International or Freightliner. No way I could see myself spending an extra $10K to get a fancy W900 or 379. You just don't get that much more truck for the extra ten grand you have to spend, and when its your own money your spending reality sinks in pretty fast. So I settled for a 05' Volvo for just under $30K.

Someday ill get my W900, and it will be extra sharp and shiny. But, until then the Volvo has filled my needs nicely, actually there are a few things I like about my VN630 compared to the Petes and KW's I had driven as a company driver in the past...

No doubt you'll need to replace the sleeper mattress . The trainers wear them out . :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

I am still looking as well & one of things that means alot to me is local service & availability of parts. My local F/liner,W.Star & IH dealers are places I would rather avoid from past experience, Peterbilt is 100 miles away either direction. So that leaves KW & Volvo(which are in the same house at CIT) to choose between.

Also have a local private diesel shop who says, ehhh bring it to me, we'll make her run... which is a good thing. But as we talked more, he cringed the least with working on Kenworth products. W9's are completely out of my reality, but hoping to find a T6 or T8 that will fit the budget.

Unless you are looking for warranty I'd rather work with a local shop.

the budget will buy more than you think it just takes a lot of shopping to find a good one

these are the trucks we bought last year
    99 w-9 just over a million with a new s-60 26k
    01 Fl Classic 520k 22k
    99 379 750k for 24k
00 Fl classic big cummins and 18 for 12.5k
98 fld fresh drive line 9.5k
all these truck are o/o spec nice rigs and working today

That is true and it's sad that you can't get Detroit in any other products other than Freightliner. I love all trucks but Freightliner and International are not what they use to be and I honestly wouldn't buy either if I was in the market for a truck.

HAHA yeah I am sure they do.

I can only dream at this time. I offered to trade them some land here in Maine, yet they declined. Sale has lapsed with no buyer yet. They have had it on their lot for over a year now. Bids on it were up to 26,500 and were declined. But I keep looking, some day I will figure out how to get my own and be on the road again.

You can get a Western Star with a Detroit .

Dimler had announced they would move Western Star production to Mexico but wisely backed off on that .
