Servus from a Schwabe in America. I used to drive in Germany and now drive over here. I own my truck and trailer. I used to haul fuel and did oversize loads in Germany. I have never broken so many laws then when I did oversize loads in Germany back in the 90s.

You would have to get a new drivers license to operate a commercial vehicle, but you will need to prove citizenship or residency. Each state has their own requirements not like in Germany. If you move to a different state you will have to get your license changed over to that state.

I started a thread a couple of years ago about my travels to and from Alaska, "Running produce to Alaska"

The trucks and sleepers are a lot bigger and trailers are a lot longer. My truck is just under 9m long and my trailer is over 16m long.

Twenty years ago I probably would have done that. Now people would speak Russian to me if I had those. I guess I could hollow the Michelin man out and put my 7" HID in it.:D:rolleyes:

    Gruesse nach Deutschland!

Started truck driving 37 years ago in Germany, nearly all over Europe (missed some Eastern States), when I was 50 years old I moved to Canada and now I'm in the States nearly 4 years.
I enjoy it driving here, I work more but I'm more relaxed here than in Germany.
1800 miles in Germany in one week and I was much more tired than here driving 3600 miles in one week.
Pay is much better than in Germany, you make about the double, cost of living is much cheaper here.
I don't think I would go back to Germany and driving a cabover? Never again! :)

    vikingswen and Pat2803 Thank this.
