Think about it. If we all boycotted truckstop food, then maybe that would wake them up and force them to have a major rethink. I'd love to see a Wholefoods supermarket and deli concept in every truckstop but unfortunately price rules. Many truckers still go for the cheap option, which is a shame. All i know is that I can have a steak and or a salmon dinner on board for a tenth of the cost in a fancy restaurant. I guess I'm one of a few that spares no expense on buying top quality food. I never buy canned food for instance. Even supermarkets sell junk. So it just takes careful consideration to buy food that only helps your health in the long run.
Good luck

I don't think boycotting will get anything fixed. What we need is to educate more drivers on the benefits of healthy eating. I totally agree with you that you need to make your own with the right ingredients. I had a friend of mine recommend a company that produces amazing nutrition in their food and I've lost almost 60 pounds and feel awesome on the road now. I started researching alkaline foods and body health and it's a huge difference and I don't waste money on junk like soda, corn dogs, and greasy truckstop pizza.

Well I think it's a bit unrealistic to boycott anything, so it was a tongue in cheek comment. We can vote for a place with our wallets and steer clear of food that is manufactured rather than be produced naturally.
A major concern of mine lately has been the proliferation of GMOs.
It started me thinking when I read that Monsanto had spent millions trying to defeat a proposition in CA to label all foods that contained GMOs. They succeeded in their quest so when a company will go to those lengths to hide their questionable food practices, it makes you wonder what are they really hiding.
GMOs FYI are pretty much banned in Europe and other countries such as Australia. There's a 10 yr ban in many countries too, but of course in the USA the politicians are in the pockets of the corps so they can do whatever they want. But there's been extensive studies and lab tests on rats and feeding them this stuff has resulted in large tumors resulting in cancer, after a steady diet of GMOs. So you have to wonder if they are the cause of so many allergies and illnesses in humans. Don't know about you, but I don't want any food that is produced in a lab.
thus I've decided to go for more organic foods and I'm starting to inspect the labels more carefully.
its a topic that you don't read or hear much about but I think it will eventually once people realize the potential dangers of certain food processes. -
Since I've been learning more about nutrition I've been looking at more web sites and I can't believe this Monsanto garbage. I seen a program few weeks back that kraft dinner is banned in Europe cause of the food dyes and that the yellow dye is carcinogenic. Like hello!! I totally agree to that all the kids allergies now a day is from all the MSGs and food preservatives in the processed foods.

Banning colors in foods has been going on for decades, and what's acceptable overseas is banned here and visa versa. The big difference here is that what controls the food supply and content is decided by lobby groups and powerful corps in the USA. And of course they have the FDA in their back pockets. But in the UK for instance lobbying is illegal so there's no special interest groups meddling with what we eat.
It bothers me that in the case of GMOs the Govt and Monsanto to name just one company are in cahoots and have no interest in questionable public food safety, but greed and profit.
We as the public have to be careful on my fronts to make sure we are eating food that will maintain our good health.
I don't trust the Govt or the greedy corporations and I won't allow them to mess with my diet. it has to be produced naturally and not in a laboratory. -
Yes sir, you hit the nail right there. Greedy corporations!!! It's pretty sad when the 1% (corporate billionaires)of the population controls the govt and the other 99%. There are one or two companies making good healthy products but that's about it. Drivers have to be a little dedicated to their health as much as we are dedicated to running miles and find a way that they can eat healthy and live more years to drive. It took me some looking, but like I said earlier I found a system that worked for me that's full of nutrition, minerals and vitamins and it was the best decision I ever made. I thought it was expensive at first, till I actually wrote the numbers and I actually save money now. I carry all
my food with me for 2 meals a day and I buy one meal, rather than buying all 3 meals and spending $40-50 everyday. -
Good for you Joe. You're taking the necessary steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I've just read this morning that certain "groups" are recommending that the number of people on cholesterol lowering drugs will increase from 16 to 31%!!! Apparently the people in the " know" have changed the guidelines so many of us will fall under this recommendation. This is the sort of nonsense that makes my blood boil. I'm sure these guidelines have been conveniently endorsed by big Pharma. Lipitor is a $6 billion cash cow for these greedy people so how would you like to bet that these guidelines are written by the very people who flog the drugs. What a corrupt system we have here. It's the biggest con job that I've ever experienced. Of course, they never mention the serious side effects that these drugs cause. Fat profits rule.
But we the people don't help matters by staying unhealthy and thus fall into their trap.
Joe, we need more people like you and I to resist relying on drugs to stay alive. Like you say, spending good money on nutrition is the only way to go. It's cheaper in the long run.
My hat is off to you for losing 60 lbs. I've never had to do that, but I was a fat kid in my youth. The older we get the more important it is to be sleek and healthy.
Good luck -
Well they have to choice to raise the percentage of people on the medication see as how all they focus on is jamming out more crap that looks healthy but has more trans fats and garbage chemicals in the food. I am a type 2 diabetic and in my mind I had one decision to make, either let it get worse and gain more weight and loose my CDL or die, OR I could do something. So I did and now I take zero medication, my blood pressure is back to normal, and my daily blood sugars are between 5.3-5.9. Can't ask for much better than that. Drivers need to stop concerning themselves with what's going on in the news garbage pile and look and getting positive and getting their own individual results. Hell, was as negative as they come and almost 300 lbs 18 months ago and if I can change a few little things, so can all the DRIVERS!!!! What's more important, eating crap food and dieing early, or getting healthy and living happy with your kids!!! We all drive cause it's a passion and a pay check, but it's no good if your not around to have fun with your kids!!!!
