Trucker says he was ‘assaulted’ by security while picking up load

Being a full time Officer for over 25 years and a part time O/O for over 16 driven for 30 I see both sides. The area I use to work had sever truck stops and private security some security was good some bad just like drivers. The problem I had on occasion was the driver that never finished law school. Some would tell me your security you can tell me what to do and most of the time another driver would chime in and say driver that’s the real police notice the marked police car and uniform with police patches. Or the few who refused to leave private property after security trespass them then I told to leave. They would go to jail truck towed. Some people can not be reasoned with.

 

No. I even stated the guard made it easy for him to make first contact. I was 100% responding to who actually made contact first, and it was the driver. Again, the guard made it very easy for the driver to yes, but the driver could have stopped when the guard got in front of him. (Or maybe not, it did happen quickly)
And for the record, I agree with both you and Grumppy. The guard should not have been there....

 

Here is my problem - driver says he decided to leave.

The hood of his truck is up, yet he makes no move to close it. He can't go anywhere until the hood is closed.

Security had asked several times for him to keep his hands visable, then he makes a move twoards the cab. An argument can be made that security thought he was attempting to access a weapon.

We don't know what was said, or the tone of voice used. There is blame on both sides, but I don't feel sorry for the driver. He made a lot of choices that led to tge confrontation.

My first year I was given a plant number, an address and told to enter at gate number 2. I pulled up and told security that I was there to pickup. Guard asks me where I was supposed to pick up, I tell him the plant number and he tells me I need the company name. I tell him I don't have it, my company only gave me xyz. He says I should find someone better to work for.

I say I am going to call me company, he says no cell phone use on the property as it is a "Federally secured facility "

I ask to go thru the gate to turn around so I can leave. He says no, it is a "Federally secured facility ".

I ask if I can back out. He says no, it is a "Federally secured facility "

I say I need to talk to your supervisor, someone in shipping, be allowed to contact my company, or be allowed to leave. He went in his guard bunker, talked on the phone, and then allowed me to back out of the inspection area and leave.

No physical confrontation needed.

 

Right. Dude said he was leaving, and that's pretty much all you need to know. Everything after that was unnecessary.

Dude was on here a couple of months ago and I have neither the time or patience to look for it. But he came off as a real #######. My opinion of him hasn't changed, but when he said 'I'm leaving' that's when it stops.

Personally, I hate it that the dude was right, but he was right. All security had to do is let him drive off and fill out a report.

 

You have to remember..straw cops want to throw their authority around sometimes. I would bet if it would have been a real criminal they would run like rabbits. Someone already mentioned the driver wanted leave. Let him leave. Wasn't even inside the gate. My goodness shut the hood of the truck and wave bye bye.

perfect example of why Security is needed to baby sit drivers at truck stops... The gray truck that was hit is in a "Make a spot" along with the white truck on the right and the 2 trucks to the right not in the picture...NONE of them should be parked there... The AT truck on the left was in a actual parking slot trying to pull out to leave and hit the gray landstar truck... Unfortunately for him it will be his fault even though the wheel holder in the gray Landstar truck isnt even in a legal parking spot...

Good grief he could have knocked, could have had security knock, called the cops to knock.....


Nope wreck two trucks and a career. Hopefully they throw him the hell out.
