Try life imprisonment without the possibility of parole actually. Illinois abolished its death penalty over a decade ago. However if the Feds decide to intervene (since a CMV operating in interstate commerce was involved),other options are possible.

i have been thinking a lot about Driver Munoz, often when i am driving among 4-wheelers behaving badly he comes to mind which is every day nearly all the time
i hope Driver Munoz's family and friends know he did nothing to deserve this senseless violence
tow truck driver should get hard time for life, and while he will likely enjoy "protection" inside, perhaps a member of his group might include an angry, abusive, frustrated ex-trucker who will give him daily anger management lessons that humble his soul and somehow make him reckon with his tragic lapse of judgment although this is entirely unsatisfactory and only more depressing
am i dark and vindictive? oh yes, but i don't kill people who act stupid around me on the road
in memory of Driver Munoz there is a lesson here for us all: crazy plus crazy equals too crazy so don't bring crazy to the crazy party -

I have seen road rage shootings and premeditated hits made to appear to be random as well as some yahoo shooting into a sleeper as the truck was parked on the side of the road, that one made me consider laying some 1/2 steel plate on the walls of my sleeping area. It's a sick world.
I was driving on a city street with several stop signs ahead of me , as I was approaching the 1st stop sign a guy parked o the curb to my right started taking off as if going to pass me as I was stopping for the stop sign.
As I was almost stopped I see the guy continue through the intersection in the gutter and never swerve into my lane, he just rammed the back of a Ford Ranger that was parked on the curb ahead of me.wasting the bed!
I drive through amazed at the guys stunt and looking in my passenger mirror I see the guy reverse out of the smashed Rangers rear end and get behind me them begin passing me on my left, as he did so he mowed down the stop sign placed in the middle of the lanes, So this guy appears to be pissed off at me!??
I feel him bump my drivers as the road ahead made an S curve to my right, the guy was starting to pull along side my drivers door, which I wanted to prevent thinking this guys blaming me for his wreck and possibly shoot through my aluminum door! I swerve to the left bumping his car which sent it off to my left, as I was entering the S curve I looked over my left shoulder to see the guys car running up a guide wire/cable to a telephone pole and his underside was completely visible to me! I am thinking how is this guy flipping the car now??
I guess he is going to blame me if he flips over and I kept going, As I did people came running out of their houses not even looking at me but the area of the guys car, I keep going and turn onto a major 4 lane road and see cop cars flying past me head on , not 1 turned around to stop me thank God so I kept going my way. I was a little freaked out and watched the news which said the guy had a heart attack and died!! not a peep about me or my truck! I guess the guy had a cardiac and it just looked as if he was going to shoot me! I felt bad but was terrified of being shot by the way he was driving!slow.rider Thanks this. -
I am gathering when the driver had mega miles experience he was asleep when the instructors taught "you are to have as little hand or arm movement to other drivers as possible". As in signals can be confusing to others and we are better off not giving any.
It is a shame the driver paid for this with his life. Yet we all should take this as an example of why we should resist making signals to others, other than the signals from the trucks we drive (turn, brake and so on).slow.rider and BoostedTeg Thank this. -
I mean, how can law abiding people compete with this?

My dad taught me, never argue with a cop unless you are in court in front of a judge, then make your case.

how indeed
thank you for posting this example of attempted vehicular manslaughter
i would say this particular situation merits a response that would immediately stop the offending vehicle, ideally a LEO or a bullet hole to a tire
however as soon as the guns come out, the situational dynamics change rapidly and just like in your vid where the car is being used as a lethal weapon with increasing aggression and reckless abandon, without a rational, skilled shooter there will only be more senseless violence
escalation of violence and no resolution until someone is dead and the other is in prison
