What is asked for is a 10 year work history IF the person was employed as the operator of a commercial vehicle. That includes ANY job that requires the occupant to operate a vehicle that is covered by FMCSA Rules, including but not limited to trucks, semi-trucks, vans and or passenger carrying vehicles (buses).
If they don't have 10 years, they must only provide information for those employers where they operated Commercial vehicles.

Section (e) seems to imply that asking a former employer for their MCC or DOT number isn't really out of the norm, and I can't figure why a "past employer" would refuse to give it. I wouldn't hire anyone whose employment couldn't be verified either, and I might suspect someone was trying to "pull wool" if I got a "NonYa" from a "former" employer.

Perhaps you should consider that not only is it Federal Law that employers VERIFY past work-history of Commercial Driver applicants, but trucking companies have been CLOSED (by the DOT) and their executives and Safety Directors have been FINED and sent to PRISON for hiring UNQUALIFIED drivers.

I wouldn't hire anyone either, who refused to supply any "proof" that I had asked for. And it is PERFECTLY legal for Trucking Companies to ask for ANY proof, including 10 years of W2 forms.

Maybe they couldn't verify his work history in the last three years and the only way was his tax records or he couldn't remember his work history so they told him to come up with something like his tax records. When I worked in the office and did the hiring for a small trucking company I had drivers that came in and couldn't recall where they worked at a year ago some couldn't remember the name of the company but new they had blue trucks, WTF. I had one driver that had 32 driving jobs in the last ten years and had everything written down, dates and all.

It is funny when some drivers would walk in and think the company was going to fill out the application for them and I think some had to. I got tired of this gig because the idiots that would call you up on the phone and talked like a thug or showed their ignorance and acted like you owed them something or they would walk in dressed like they just got out of bed and then sit in your office wanting a job but every other word was a cuss word. It wasn't like that in the old days, they wouldn't put up with that crap and throw you out in street, but everyone is scared they going to get sued.

so wait, the IRS requires I only keep tax records for 7 yrs and this employer wants 10 yrs of W2's? yeah, good luck with that, I'll refer them to the landfill where my shredded tax records were disposed of.

As for DOT/MCC number, I bet 80% of the company drivers, 50% of the O/O's, and 80% of the heads of those trucking companies don't know what their DOT/MCC number is. Hell, I know drivers who can't spell the name of their employer, let alone know the DOT number that is plastered on their truck.

In my opinion that is a very good thing for those of us with a clean driving history and a good work history,....

In theory our wages and conditions should get better,...

Well I think it is a good thing and I hope it hits these larger carriers hard. Shortage of trucks is a good thing when shippers need their freight hauled.

I just finished filling out an app where they mention that they might want 10 years of W2's and tax returns. Haven't decided yet if I'm willing to give that stuff up if they ask for it, or if it's asking too much, but I don't expect that they'll want it.

Other thing that they want is a paper filled out by my current employer (who doesn't know I'm looking for work) regarding my safety and drug testing records. I don't mind them hiring me on the condition that this stuff comes back clean, but I'm not letting my current company know that I want to jump ship until it comes time to put in my two weeks. I just left that part blank, so I have to see what becomes of it.
