Some kind of trip report app would be good. I keep track of my ifta miles the old fashioned way by writing down my state line miles and gallons of fuel purchased in each state. Then I add it up at the end of the quarter. Takes about an hour but the mileage is 100% accurate. Have used Promiles in the past but that won't factor in all the out of route. I'd like to be able to enter all my numbers at the end of the day into a smart phone that would keep a running tally. I believe some of the gps units can do this but I didn't want to spend $500 on one right now.

The Randy McNally ones do this but doesn't keep track of what highways and routes you traveled on you just gotta remember but it does record the miles you driven threw that state, also it doesnt keep track of fuel purchases and gallons purchased but that's what you got recipts for.
They are 500 buck I think to so it's not that great of a investment. Better to do it old school way.
Something that keep track of all that would be worth the investment but -
I am actually in a similar position and thinking about what kinds of little things might make life easier and cheaper for owner operators. I know you guys especially live on tiny margins, and could use all the savings you can get (who couldn't these days?).
Any maintenance/upkeep things you guys think you can use? -
You can buy a 12 volt 4 camera set at Costco for under $300.00 One at the rear, one on the dash and 2 on the mirrors with an adjustable arm for wide loads.

A pnumatic wrench with a glad hand connection. And an attachment for spinning the landing gear crank. I don't care if it's only works on the low side, if it's spinning at 240 rpms.

Thats true!, but have you ever tried to get an idea to maket? it takes more $ than this ole trucker ever made! and forget all those scams that want to do it for you, they are only scams to get your $. Anyway now I found a better way! [nothing to do with inventions.] Happy Trails!

About 10k to patent and then whatever other $ it takes to pitch the idea that can produce it for you. No risk no reward.

Bah most mechanics I knew have built any specialized tools themselves. Some times it's so specialized most people don't even know what they're for.
On the other hand most of that infomercial stuff is junk for lazy people.
Still anyone wants to try building what I described, go for it. But I'm not going to pay $200 for it at Pilot if you manage to make it/market it/get Pilot to carry it. -
